I've also had my pet "freeze" while in a raid, and had to dismiss and re-summon to get it to move again. Not fond of all the new bugs - I liked the old ones better...

I pretty much leave my pet on passive. I have hunters mark/pet attack macroed together. I just press Q, my mark goes up, my pet charges in, and the fight begins. the only disadvantage is I cant mark until after the pull, but it's never been an issue.

Since there's a bit of talk of macros, could I ask a favor?

What line could I put OTHER than "assist" to make my 2nd computer (I dual-box) target the same target as my main, but WITHOUT starting to shoot?

I'd like to be able to have my 2nd computer macro just target the same mob, send in the pet, and THEN, when I press again, start autoshoot and whatever else I put into my "follow" toon's basic attack macro. (My "main" toon is fine-controlled, with my abilities on different keys, but for the "/follow" toon, it's much easier to put most of what he normally needs in a single "attack macro". I only dual-box alone with this setup, I never party with other people)

For the time being I have /assist party1, but that launches the autoshoot, which I'd like to avoid, if possible. It's the only way I could get my 2nd box to target the same mob as my main. Is there a "target the same mob as (fill-in-the-blank)" phrase for macros?

/target focustarget Target whatever the focus is targeting1

According to wowwiki.

I'd like to try and make a macro that would use that, if I HAVE a focus.. but act like tab if I didn't... Then just bind it to my tab key... Hmm..

Edit: I think I just found a way to do something similar just from regular keybinding, yay! I'll just have to see if that's how it actually works.

there seems to be a problem with macros, or at least, with MY macros.

if I actually type "/assist party1", my 2nd toon will target, but not actually attack whatever my main is targeting. (I have autoattack on assist = off)

however, for some reason, in a macro, it starts autoattack regardless,

Well, the one I did above should just target them, not assist, so.. could be worth trying.

I wanted to reserve setting a focus for my pet - on whom I always cast Misdirection.

I guess I could always simply name my pet in the macro... is there a "cast on pet" line for a macro?

AHA!
I figured out how to fix my problem... create a macro for multi-shot!

/target party1target
/cast multi-shot

whatever my main is targeting gets targeted for multi-shot.

#showtooltip Misdirection
/stopcast
/cast target=focus [Exists, Help, NoDead] Misdirection; target=pet Misdirection

Misdirects focus if the Focus if you have one, and it is a living friendly. If you have no focus, or the focus has died or is an enemy, it casts misdirect on your pet.

My macro was very similar :D just uses a slightly different syntax, however, I do love the help, nodead bit.. added it in to mine, heh.

my only problem here is that I am dual-boxing.
this means I can't have my secondary account focus on my main. at least, not if I want to misdirect to my pets.

if you want it just misdirecting at your pets, you can just leave out all the stuff about focus, and just do target=pet Misdirection.

As for the assist thing. I just keybound my target focus to F1 (cause.. really.. I've never had to target myself in a rush), so it's much easier to just quickly F1-> F -> Kill, heh.

I've been using assist stance more often recently - now that I've gotten more used to it, it's not too bad. The only thing I have to watch out for are my AOE pets.

Using Madexx in Molten Front means he goes on an endless killing spree because everytime his TS goes off... EVERYONE in its radius gets added to his aggro list... even though 90% of these NPCs never actually responded to his AOE attack on account of being too busy with other players or Hyjal guards...

See, that's the part that confused me though.. they announced assist as "the pet will attack the hunter's target" ... So the pet should NOT GET it's own aggro list.. It should attack my target... And if i haven't hit anything else, should run back to me after the fight. It SHOULD NOT go and attack that random magma worm, or behemoth halfway across the freaking zone because it decided to throw an AoE, or rock that far.... Yes.. I've had it happen... many.. many... many times.. I remember looking around thinking "where'd she go....?" only to see the blue dot disappearing beyond my mini map range....

In my eyes, that behaviour is what defensive stance should be. So far.. it seems like they just renamed the old defensive.. and then nerfed defensive... rather than bothering to actually develop a new stance to replace aggressive so that hunters didn't complain about losing something...

Yeah, I honestly never thought after Vanilla I'd have to deal with 'the heck is my pet going after -' *checks* OH GOD NO! *dismissdismiss*

Blizzard should revert back to the original stances since the changes was really unnecessary. Aggressive was always for pvp, defensive was always for pve and passive was always for people who like to macro or when time you want your pet to just sit still.

Yeah, I've turned off Thunderstomp and any family specific aoe abilities in that first area of the Molten Front.

Another fun bug: Pets seem to get stuck in totems, poles, columns... awesome.

You're lucky your pet at least pretends to have a reason to sit there and slack off! I've caught Loque more than once just staying put on flat ground, refusing to move even though his target has move well out of his range. :(

It is an incredibly stupid change, I never used aggressive stance in PvP much to begin with so I haven't noticed a lot of difference there. PvE on the other hand.. It's beyond a joke, I either have to select between having my pet attack what i'm attacking 100% of the time (Do not want), or ask him to manually attack one target at a time, running back and forth between me and the mobs in limbo after each kill.

It's pathetic..

Now the only effective way I can have my pet function properly defensive stance like it did for the last 7 years, is to send it in manually, do a 180ยบ jump / disengage into some aoe, and then run back out. *snort*
