Like Mia said, taunts and the like no longer work on Deth'tilac, Growl included, and unless you feign each and every time your pet goes in and attacks him, your pet cannot possibly outdo the aggro you gain from constantly damaging him. In my experience, while helping others tame Deth'tilac, he would only turn and attack a non-webbing pet if he was held in place, whether through Entrapment or someone else's spider pet's web, and I believe that still holds true. Of course, if the pet somehow managed to have aggro, he would also attack it, in theory, but... see above. It simply could not be done given what we know about threat.
Edited a couple times because I'm bad at finishing my thoughts before I post them, apparently!

Mine still pulled Aggro with growl so I don't think Growl was included, nor is Intimidate. The only taunts they fixed were like tanking taunts and Distracting Shot.

Well growl has not worked since the change in my experiences with Deth tames.

If aggro wasnt involved, I would've stayed ontop of the meter, but I didnt. My pet pulled ahead, Deth turned to him, mauled him, then went after the 2nd person on the list aka me.
The frame turning red doesn't mean that you actually lost aggro; it means that your target is targeting someone else. If Omen changed too, then there's probably some sort of aggro-based cheat due to proximity.
I've kited Deth every time without any sort of threat coming from my pet. When he gets rooted, he turns to someone in melee range and kills them, regardless of where they are on the aggro table.

Blizz must have some sort of weird complicated system with him.

Sort of off-topic, but does Growl work at all, period? On my new lowbie hunter, my pet might as well be slapping the mob with a limp noodle. Actually, that'd still probably pull more threat than Growl. Did it just get nerfed to bits or what? I send my pet in, wait a couple seconds before firing, and after the first shot, I have about 200% aggro. It doesn't make sense. That, or Growl was always this pitiful and being gone a while made me forget?

Other mobs work like that too. Try rooting a mob you have aggro on next to your pet.

You probably have BoAs, right? It makes your damage much greater than your pet's threat. BM hunters have less trouble, but it's still an issue sometimes.

Heh, actually, I do not. I started over completely fresh on a new server. I have no BoAs, no money.....my brother and I craft all our gear and often end up broke in doing so. Yet we still somehow blast the daylights out of anything that moves.

Hrm, not sure then! It's been a while since I've started a new hunter without BoAs. Might be related to the focus system changes, but that's just speculation.

When I tamed Deth'tilac, I had a druid helping -- along with a shadow priest and a paladin

. I did not have aggro when his health dropped enough to tame so the paladin called out to root Deth. The druid did and I mashed the tame button.
Rhyela, try turning cower off.

Cower has worked differently for a long while now. It no longer has any effect on threat, rather it's a damage decreasing cool down similar to a Turtle's Shell Shield. The AI will use it when the pet gets somewhere below 50% health I believe.

Hello, this is the hunter that Jetfyre spoke of who tamed Deth'tilac during Arisia's attempt. I just wanted to 'publicly' apoligize for this and say that I was truly convinced Deth'tilac was about to die if I didn't intercept. I know a simple apoligy doesn't make up for losing the purple beauty, but it's the least I could give you. I apoligize to Arisia and everyone who's been helping you to get Deth'tilac, and I bid you the best of luck.

This opens up a can of worms I know I can't properly respond to here, though the blanket post certainly gives me opportunity to. So I've left speaking my mind to my dA journal for this.
What I can say here, Ari, is I'm collecting timers for when you get on next. No matter what else happens during other spawns, I will do what I can to see him finally home with you, and I know a lot of others will too.

OK, this is me again posting...
For the first tame loss, I have no clue what happened. I honestly thought I had the aggro, but you know, I also had just done the warden dailies, and in my searching (I obsess) of tames, I have read a lot of bugged things happening to that purple spider o doom. For all I know, I somehow blew something, OR something entirely out of my hands took over and well, poor Deth died. (no pun intended)
For the one that happened yesterday, I'm not angry at anyone. Using tame etiquette, hell, I died, Aaldrus, you were in rights to tame Deth, and I hope you and your new friend Hunt together Well. Was I upset? Um, yeah... you have to be made of stone not to be when you want a pet and don't get it. :

: But, in truth here, in the end, when mine spawns, I'll tame it, and I have a wonderful person who is watching for it for me, as well as me sitting myself and watching. It will spawn... and one way or another, I will tame. LOL
I've listened to everyone on this-- taken the help I can, integrated what I can, and thank all of you. As an explanation as to why I may seem slow to react if you are personally helping with the tame, it is not my not paying attention. I have a medical condition that limits some of my reactions, and my online time. I am **not** posting this for pity, trust me, its to explain that no, I am not ignoring offered help or being a jerk when I do the wrong thing-- just letting you know I'm doing my best, trust me. :

:
Now... let's all think "third time's the charm" and hope my next post is with screenshots of me and my wonderful purple spider o doom. ;D

That's the spirit, Arisia! I've had pets tamed/killed upon my own failed tames upon them by someone else. Tames are often full of luck and what the situation is to the point of view in others, in my case. Happy hunting

Aww...Aaldrus, I'm proud of you darlin. *hugs tight* That took a lot of guts.
Arisia, you got plenty watching out for you. Deth will be yours one way or another.

… and I flew as fast as I can to Molten Front because I was going to help Otara. Along the way though, I had to get an all-clear from Jess if Arisia was there or not. But either way, we would be ending up helping who’s going to tame anyway
I finally saw how awesome rooting could be. I was surprised several times when my pet would come back to me unharmed every time Deth was rooted! Thanks to Jetfyre and Ijomi for helping out.
Wishing Arisia all the luck… if I’m on, count on me to help out.

Congratulations again, Ari! He's home where he belongs.

I knew having a druid alt would come in handy someday.
