Oh you're right! Sorry I had no idea they were the same thing. It's been too long. Of the three NPCs, one has "Terrifying Screech", one has "Terrify" and the other "Screech". The latter just reduces attack power, but the other two do the same thing.

I'd like to see a new family for lizards, with Mushan beasts, basilisks, and Diemetodons. And hydras. And what is this about porcupines?! Really?

Porcupines are currently tameable on the beta. They're a little bugged right now and considered to be 'boars', but it looks like, yes, we're getting them.

I don't wanna shatter anyone's hopes and dreams or anything but... I can't see yaks becoming a pet family. Because of the size of them and the current yak mounts we've seen so far, my mind considers them a lot like mammoths - mounts and that's it. I can see cranes getting their own family since I'm not 100% sure they'd quite fit into the bird of prey one. I would love to see pterrodaxs make an appearance as a pet. Everytime I'm in Un'Goro and I see one I wonder why on earth we can't get them as pets. We could end up having a dinosaur pet family that devilsaurs and raptors could also be squished into, that'd be amazing imo. Devilsaurs, raptors, pterrodaxs, diemetradons...

Actually, I've been hoping for tamable Mammoths/Elekks since Wrath... I think they'd make fun pets, with some sort of trunk swipe!

I think I dinosaur family would be cool... But I'd much prefer they each got their own families. I have a very close bond with Krush, and I feel like if he were paired up with other dinosaurs, he'd out shine them all. X.x I dunno if that'd actually happen, but I see it likely so I'd just rather have them be separate. XD

Yeah it would be a tad sad it they where all thrown in together. It would be akin to putting Cranes, Owls, Vultures, Eagles and Tallstriders all into one family and just calling them "birds".

Then they have already separated Devilsaurs and Raptors and those guys are pretty dam similar when it comes to anatomy and makeup. That and Pterrordax are just to neat to be just tossed into another group imo ;)

True enough.

These are all VERY good reasons that shouldn't happen. :D

I want to beable to tame seaturtles and make it so that when on land it's like 1% movement speed as it's got flippers and not legs!

Yeah, in fact (in the real world at least) all those birds are far more closely related to each other than raptors and pterrosaurs would be! Actually, velociraptors and birds are much closer too ;) And dimetrodons were in the group that spawned mammals and are probably much more closely related to us than to dinosaurs ;)

On the topic of diematradons being related to crocolisks - we now have proof! Minipets have awesome little lore tidbits and info on them in the Pet Journal now, it's fascinating to read through them all.

This or basilisks, although I think they do fit with the crocolisk better.

Just wanted to note that I updated the first post in this thread since we're sort of past speculation now.

Theoretically I think we could be done with new pet families. We have 6 new ones now, and that's enough to wager that they don't plan on adding more.

I still have this small hope that they'll surprise us toward the end with one or two new families that we were asking for, but we have no reason to complain if the 6 that were introduced is all we're getting in MoP. It's more than we got in Cataclysm, and on par with the amount we got in The Burning Crusade. I can't help but think if they're going to release new families they'd work on that all at once and get their abilities sorted out together.

I know it's kind of a drag about hydras, but if we don't get them then I guess we don't get them for now. :( I'm sure there's a reason behind it as they're well aware of how popular they are with the community in general. We'd have them by now, so I can only assume there's something holding them back.

Mmm, I'm not so sure that it's now or never. There aren't any hydras in Pandaria, and every single one of the new families added has some sort of representation out there. Fen striders got lumped in with the new water striders, so they got a pass.

Overall, this has been the theme of new families, looking back at the previous expansions. The only arguable additions are from Wrath: core hounds and silithids don't have tamable representation in Northrend (and even core hounds get a bit of a pass, since there's a representative inside Violet Hold). However, Wrath was also the expansion in which exotics were added, so exceptions make some degree of sense.

And yet, while there's all that solid reasoning, the fact remains that some players DO have actual hydra pets. They wouldn't've been made a real family if Blizzard hadn't been considering giving them to us. So I do agree that there is likely some reason they're being held back. Blizzard knows how much players pine for "limited edition" (read: totally unintended) pets; they learned that with the ghost wolves. Here's hoping that whatever they have planned, it'll work out sooner than later.

Oops, didn't word that very well, I wasn't trying to say I don't think we'll EVER get them if they don't show up now, just that we might not get them for MoP. I meant it more as a "if we don't get them we don't get them, maybe next time".

Ooh, nod. :) That makes more sense with what we'd discussed too. ;)

Pterosaurs and the Plesiosauria (Lock Ness-like monsters in wow) aren't even dinosaurs so they shouldn't be lumped with them. (I really want a Deep Sea Threshadon )

As for hydras and their chances of tameability, I think it's one of those arbitrary policies Blizzard seems to teem with. Someone up there probably thinks "we don't want hunters to tame hydras / we don't think hydras fit our artistic vision / we think lack of hydras for hunters is vital to the game style of WoW". Yes, none of those three arguments make sense, but you'd find Blizzard uses them much more often than they should.

So I reckon we get those six now, and that's it for MoP.

If someone upstairs really thought those things, the ghost hydras wouldn't actually be hydras. Or if they (god forbid) changed their minds, those same hydras would most likely go back to the crocolisk family.

Whatever the actual reasoning behind the call, I just don't think that's it.
