You need to track their steps. You cannot even see them(the creature in question) until you flare them out. Which means no target macro of any kind will work.

What Jessibelle said!

In case you missed it, all of the MoP rare tracking info is in this thread: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18527 - and here's a quick reference link to my tracking video: http://youtu.be/iqKApSQu4oY

The flare ability you have. Hunter's have a flare.

If you find a footprint and can't see anymore infront of you, throw out a flare cause they could be infront of you. If you see nothing, find another footprint or travel along the path you know they pat.

It's really just following the tracks (backwards!), using the hunter Flare ability, marking with Hunter's Mark or halting with Freeze Trap, and taming. If you lose the trail, the maps can help get you back on course and let you guess where the beast is going to go.

It's really a simple sort of concept, but an excellently realized one. :) Due to competition and rough terrain, it seems a lot more complicated, but it's not. :D

Yup yup!

Your vids helped a lot. I wish the maps you showed were bigger but I found a website that had bigger maps.

(that's just glimmer in particular. The one in your vid was too small so I used this one.)

The maps in my vids aren't supposed to be the ones people use for reference. I linked to the Petopia thread with the link to Sams's maps, since it didn't make sense to me to pause a video to see the map when you could just...have the map. ;)

You weren't the only one! It's just something that I'll have to take into consideration in the future, since people WILL do it, even if I don't. :)

I honestly hadn't expected the vids to take off like they have; they were mostly intended to be a visual representation of the aforementioned thread. Live and learn, right? :D

Since things have evolved far beyond the original concept, all of the feedback is helpful in designing future vids. :D

Hey it's not a bad thing! :3 Your vids were very helpful and even if the map was tiny, it gave me an idea of what to look for.

Its okay; I myself am proof that you do NOT need to do the quests in the area to get Glimmer. My advice to you would be to just wait outside the phased area. The map mentioned earlier showing you the phased area is perfect. Just use that. I waited for a track to appear at the bottom of the river and then I knew he was entering the phased area. Then, I went to the other side and waited for tracks to appear. if you've studdied his path enough, you will eventually notice tracks as you search. Once I found his tracks come out of the phased area, it was just a matter of predicting his next few steps with a flare!

I can attest as I tamed Glimmer too without doing the quests. I saw his footprints fade out so I ran ahead of him and waited by the lake where he unphases.

I just got Patrannache last night, and yes, his footprints are extremely hard to see even with ground clutter turned to low - they are extremely tiny. It was probably the most frustrating tracking I have done so far, but just keep at it. Using a map from Because it's Rare! helps a ton if you lose the trail - just find another point on the rare's path and try to catch up there.

The only things that helps me with seeing tracks are having ground clutter and liquid to low. I don't see how anything else matters. The rest I keep on high or Ultra.

For instance in the area where he walks past the pet battle trainer by the lake before going up the hill and past that tree, I was not able to see a single track. Not even a partial one. On the beta server, there was a track every 20 yards or so, in all areas.

I also think they adjusted his spawn rate. After I tamed the green one, I checked the spawn point for the next 3.5 hours and he never showed back up. He definitely did not respawn within 1-2 hours like some said he was doing at first.
Did you have your settings lowered? I found this to be helpful. :3
The same settings I used on beta and the settings I normally use. Everything on fair except textures high and liquids low.
That's where your problem lies.

Everything should be on low except View distance and environmental detail(those two should be on Ultra). Liquid should be on Fair.
I can't put them on Ultra and retain a good FPS. Added to that is the fact that I don't like the way the game looks with draw distance any higher than fair. It loses depth and looks like a flat painting instead of a 3D environment. I much prefer seeing things come out of the mist. It's really a moot point though since with the exact same settings on the beta, Portent had more visible tracks. I stand by the statement that they have probably been reduced. Even Bloodtooth's tracks appeared to be farther apart than on beta. I can see tracks as far away as they would be distinguishable with the settings I'm using.

They weren't reduced. I'm just trying to help. Tracking these guys, imho, isn't about what settings you like. You don't have to keep them permanently that way. Just til you get your tame. :)

Then set it on high, or the highest you can do. Lowering everything else makes the footprints stand out.

I've been after Patrannache with no luck at all. Even took my days off to sit and camp, running all along the path marked by a map and not a single print.

Wish there was away to make the prints easier to see, as even with ground clutter at it's min, I'm either blind or having horrid luck.

Any hunters on Argent Dawn care to lend some aid?

AD is pretty populated; I think it's just a high traffic issue.

Can the tracks be targeted in any way? Do they have an ID that rare finder could pick up on? I've sat at three choke points that I know of just waiting and nothing to be seen.

No they can't. You need to look for them. There are maps of their pathing. NPCScan and SilverDragon cannot help us this time.
