Geek-speak inc, beware! :)

It sounds like these other places don't tell your browsers to not cache the images, whereas signavatar apparently did. Caching is enabled by default in order to save on bandwidth, so it has to be explicitly disabled to cause a browser to request a fresh copy for each page visited. You can probably test this theory by instead of clearing your cookies you clear your cache and browse to a new page with the same sig/avatar.

How does one disable caching? Ive tried several rotating sig sites and not one is rotating my sigs without refresh or closing the tab and opening a new one :(

It's something that the site has to configure. As an end-user of the service you unfortunately have no control over it, other than asking the provider to change their configuration. For the nitty-gritty details you can have a read at e.g. http://www.mnot.net/cache_docs/. Googling for Cache-control and Expires headers undoubtedly list many other good resources.

D: urf.. i read a few topics in that link, i was immediately lost XD i dont want to mess around with something i dont understand, hopefully i can find some way of having a reliable rotation site. Is the problem normally seen only by the person who made the url, like, i made a rotating sig, and only i can see it not working, or is it something that affects everyone who views it? Several people told me they all see different pics at a given time, but unless they refresh/enter a new tab, that pic is the only one they see in my sig.

This. Whenever anyone asks for a pic, they get a random one. The problem is that their browser won't ask for a new one because the browser hasn't been told it needs to ask again every time, and so it uses the cached copy instead.

Think of it as recorded news. The first time you watch it it'll be fresh news, but unless you know there's a new bulletin available you'll keep on getting the same old news.

Okay, I'm no good with analogies. I think there are supposed to be cars in there or something. Or kittens maybe.

I'll leave the thread open, but put a big Mod note in the OP that it's now working.

Yay! Just saw that it was working again in another thread.

Mine are working like they use to. I just went through a few pages of my avatar thread and each page loaded a different avatar/sig for me.

Atleast with this whole mess we now have a good back up site if anything ever happens to SignAvatar again.

Mine are still borked. Ever since Signavatar went down something funky has been happening to my browser, since everyone else seems to be doing fine, but while i have no idea how and am afraid to ask google chrome to turn off that caching thingy, i've cleared my browsers history 3 times now, while making sure cookies and plug-in data get erased as well but im still finding my sig never changes (im using rotating sigs on magistream)

To be honest, Xakaal, I've never noticed you with another avatar other than the Skoll with the top hat.

Sorry to bump this, but has anyone else been having an issue with SignAvatar since it's been back up? My sig and avatar won't display, it's like it's still down and just says "Image" in place of where they should be. I've tried going to SignAvatar and checking, all of my sigs and avatars are still uploaded there. I've updated my links here on the forums just in case, but they will not display. They seemed to be working for a bit right after it came back up, but now it's back to nothing working. Wonder if something broke for me when they renewed.

I might try deleting all my avatars and sigs and just reuploading them. That's the next step I can think of.

I can see your sig and avatar, if it's any consolation.

Also, to put it out there, I'm still using randimg.net and it's working just fine.

Hmm, I was wondering about that. I seem to see everyone elses just fine that are back to using SignAvatar. So it's something on my end. As to why they won't display for me... I'm not entirely sure. Maybe I'll clear cookies and what not. Thanks for reminding me about that possibility.

My best guess about people's stuff not displaying to them is that it's probably something on their end. I just refreshed the page after reopening it to check your post and both your signature and avatar rotated. I wish I could be of more help to the folks like you having trouble. :(

Clearing cookies etc for everything didn't help. It actually caused me to not be able to log in for a while. I tried resetting my password but never received any of the emails. It just now finally let me log in, how odd.

I guess if it's displaying correctly for others that's fine, but it really bothers me to see my own posts and not see and avatar or sig, specially when I made them. =(

I understand. :( The only thing I can suggest would be to try and find someone who's internet/tech savvy and see if they can't figure out what's going on.

An alternative solution would be to manually rotate them for now. Not as convenient, I know, but at least you'll be able to see them too.
