Honestly? They're either too stubborn to admit they were caught and they're trying to hide behind a bullshit story, or they really are delusional and have tricked themselves into believing they're me.

I'm more angry about the blatant lies than I am about this entire thing. I wanted to stay positive and level headed throughout this situation, I wasn't even angry in the beginning, just...puzzled.

After the correspondence last night though I'm just fed up with the whole thing.

Honestly this person is disgusting. Simple as that. If they are upsetting you they are upsetting all of us.

That someone would do that is creepy, disturbing, and indicative of a mental problem. That they would then message you and lie about it is even worse. I can't imagine how much it would distress me if i was in your situation. Sorry you're dealing with this. What makes it worse is apparently they're a member of this forum, and this is a pretty close knit community. Feels like a viper in the middle of what should be a safe nest.

Just to clarify, they created a new account to message me so I can't say if they're someone who is/was active in the community, or just a lurker. Either way I'm still convinced it's someone who has been on the forums in some manner.

That is ridiculous Vephriel, I'm very sorry to hear this is happening to you. It's not just the name; there is no conceivable way that this person isn't imitating you. Their character looks like yours, has a similar transmog, and even has pets with your pets' names! Anyone would be upset and angry in your position. Then they lie to you when they know this?! That's simply awful.

Here's the initial message I received. I'm sure after you read it you'll understand why I'm 5000% done with this bullshit. As the conversation continued they only added more ridiculous excuses and "coincidences" to the point of being laughable. Hello, first of all I would like you to know how terribly sorry I am!

I feel horrific for how I may have made you feel recently upon your discovery of my character. I can totally understand how it may have affected you and wish you to know that it was not intentional neither was it meant as any form of harassment!

I have been playing for 8 years now and the character has indeed been with me since vanilla, however was originally portrayed as a human warrior. Her initial design was based upon my own appearance and name was determined from a family tradition dating back to the 15th century, where every 5 decades the firstborn daughter is presented with the name Vephriel, it is a common happening within my family for a child to be a Vephriel, 'Phriel' being a definitive claus within a sub form of the Nordic language. My father however argued against my fore name being Vephriel and instead it is my middle name.

Upon the release of Burning Crusade I became very attached to the Blood Elf model and desired to recreate her as one, which required the deletion of character since recustomisation etc did not exist then.
I went through a number of phases of trying out each class for her and only a couple of years ago settled with Hunter, being a favorite of mine, I have numerous hunter characters.

I am so very embarrassed that [name removed], who contacted me, had to inform me of such a horrific event and it troubles me greatly to realise how this must have made you feel! See I have never used the forums before, this being my first time, I was not aware of your existence neither was I aware of our characters likeness!

As I have been notified, a number of our pets names and looks were also similar, I am tremendously embarrassed that this has happened and taken the liberty of renaming the majority of them!
I had named all four of my Devilsaurs on their English translation of the Swedish/Nordic words to which I had christened them based on my desired characteristic of each pet. The wasp, Sabbath, was named as I was running low on ideas and infact listening to Paranoid by Black Sabbath at the time. The warp stalker Reznor was named after Trent Reznor, a singer/songwriter and record producer, that I admire as a member of the industrial rock band, Nine Inch Nails. The crocolisk, Aleister, was a rendition of my stupidity of naming an alligator hipster... Alli-ster but later spelt differently, I must ask if you wish for me to edit his name further, but I have grown attached to him and it would possibly only be a further rendition.

In terms of your frustration regarding the use of my character as a roleplay character I implore you she has been that since her first human appearance, however the description upon argent archives is a failure of a plot that I initially wrote around the age of 12. I have changed it since!

I am completely aware of how I may have made you feel, and do not wish for you to label me as an enemy, however the character appearance, model wise, and name are as much yours and mine as they are anyone else's. I am quite aware of a great surge of characters with the same look infact including the armor set I have adorned my character in. (That being the easiest full set, I could acquire on my own.)

I offer you my most heart felt apologies and wish only to be concerned in the matter of advice or desires you may present to me to differentiate our characters further, I truly believe this is a horrific coincidence and do not, in any way, mean to harm or terrify you in the slightest!

I can only offer to rename my pets once more, retransmog my character as I believe we have similar armor sets and even offer to delete my Tumblr account, I do not use it you see, I was asked to make one for College, but never figured out how to use it fully and have since taken to using Blogger instead.

I am truly sorry, and offer my most heart felt and sincerest apologies to you as I feel horrible due to how I may have made you feel, but trust me, this was not an intentional happening and I was as shaken up as you most probably were upon finding out that our characters were effectively clones!

I wish not to be your enemy, I ask only that you consider my apology and understand that it seems to have been a terrifying coincidence, that has led to this!

I look forward to hearing from you, hopefully you can understand how awful this must seem to you and I both.

The excuses just evolved as our conversation continued, in fact by the end I'm pretty sure they were trying to say that they happened to look just like me and had the same tastes in things that I do, which explains the conveniently coincidental similarities.

Some form of mental disorder I'd say.

Please. Some of us have known Veph for years and know damned well there was zero internet presence for the name until this imposter turned up. No one is buying it. It would be MUCH wiser to apologize for causing Veph distress and lying to her. Then try and work up some creativity to make your own original character. Really, it's easier than stealing someone else's, plus it'll be a better fit. (I'm not saying that was the worst Canadian impression I've ever seen, but that WAS the worst Canadian impression I've ever seen.)

I was hoping for the same, Bowno. In the PMs following that first message I stayed calm and just kept asking for the truth because that's all I wanted. I wouldn't even be angry if they had come clean at the beginning, but the lying pissed me off more than all the rest combined.

This is certainly one of the most bizarre things I've ever been involved in, and I can't thank everyone enough for just being here even though it doesn't involve any of you directly. This thread was originally just a shot in the dark hoping to find the imposter since I didn't know where else to start looking, but I really appreciate the support it turned into because in the chaos of this whole strange situation I would feel really lost without somewhere to vent. The stolen WoW character thing (plus weird stalking on top of that) isn't really something I can easily explain to other people and have it make sense, or at least I don't feel it would have the same weight to people who aren't involved in the game.

I think I'll be fine with whatever happens from this point on though, even if I never find out who exactly did this and why. Once it became clear I wasn't getting anywhere with talking to them, I sort of gave up, but in my mind they've been exposed now. There are plenty of people that know they're a fake, so that's good enough for me.
