im naturally a pessimist (even though i know pessimism is just as wrong as optimism lol) but im 50/50 on this one: disappointed so far but theres still some time to add more.

opinion: i dont think we needed to have these three new pets to have there own families. rename wolves to K-9s and add to wolves the dogs and foxes (add the hyenas too, theyre K-9s too right?), then rename gorillas to primates (that the right name right?) and then throw the monkeys in there. while were at it add the birds of prey and carrion birds together. my reason for this is to really only add skins to families. there are a lot of pets i would love to try out but i HATE the skins that they currently have. i HATE the dog skins so far so ill never pick one of them up, and unless i can get the oil covered buffed wolf, the blue and/or green wolves are added, or foxes are thrown in there ill never have a wolf either. i do hope we can get more families and skins, both new and old, for all three types of pets, but im not holding my breath for i cant hold it that long lol.

Just out of curiosity/boredom I looked up on some families...
http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/s ... ml#Canidae
Canine family includes: Wolves, dogs, foxes. So they could be in the same family if they called it canine, but I think one reason they may have split it up because that would be one pretty big family if they continue adding more wolves, foxes, and dogs...especially dogs >.>

http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/s ... nidae.html
Hyena's however are their own family.

http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/s ... #Hominidae
Hominidae Family includes: gorillas, humans, chimps, and orangutans.
I'm not sure exactly what the "monkeys" are, but I'm pretty sure they're not orangutans or humans ;) so it would depend on if they could be considered chimps.

...>.> I'm staying out of the rest of discussion.

Monkeys could not be considered chimps as they are not chimps. Chinps are apes monkeys are monkeys as they have tails apes do not.

I am so completely and utterly disappointed... that my chocolate pie does not have oreo crumb pie crust!!! HOW can you have PIE and NOT oreo crumb pie crust! Its unforgivable!!!

Oh, well, yeah.. Cata pets huh? They're swell. We finally get a monkey to /fling poo. heh.

Honestly, the game ain't shipping yet and, being an MMO, won't be "finished".. evar! They will add plenty on the pet front. Hunter is getting the most work done to the damned class, so naturally they want to make sure the pointy end of the arrows still go into the bad guys, cause if you miss that one vital step... Nazi's will bust into the room riding dinosaurs and the end of the world will begin... and you just don't want that to happen...

Seriously... I know we are all excited over the "planned" fresh coat of paint on our old toy horse, but the contractors aren't done sanding the thing yet and we're bitching about it looking too... "woody...ish".

So... Lets not bicker and argue about who nerfed who. Lets instead do something constructive and all go back to our collective kitchens and bake pie...

chocolate pie...

with oreo crumb crusts...

nooom :D

I'd like to remain optimistic, but I too like the most of you, am a bit concerned.

Even if new spirit beasts make their debut in later patches, it still will only contribute to a very small percentage of new tamable beasts that have been introduced: foxes, mastiffs, and monkeys. The rest are just reskins of current beasts already found in the game.

The clock is ticking! Launch date is only 2 1/2 months away (roughly). This fact alone, makes me very, very worried indeed.

For all the love of hunter pets, I must say I do hope Blizz prioritizes getting the MAIN HUGE CHANGE to hunters right - i.e. the mana-to-focus switch! And so far, I'd say that's exactly what they've been doing :)

Laochra wrote:can someone explain to me the mass appeal of hunters wanting Stags, Talbuks, and Deer as pets? To my perspective, those pet families are things you are supposed to "hunt" for food, not to be an attack animal.
In the United States and Canada, you have more to fear from moose (six deaths per year) than any other creature except snakes (12).

From http://wilderdom.com/risk/RiskOutdoorRi ... stics.html

I know stags/deer aren't quite on par with... mooses? meese? but still, I think it'd be an amusing pet

*edit: All that random knowledge from being an eagle scout finally pays off, woo

Well a normal sized deer could kill you. A kick to the chest or something could take you out.

I am not that disappointed because I have been wanting dogs in WoW for a loooong time. But if I look back at the other expansions, I am thinking there will be more even better ones coming up, they just want to surprise us.

While technically it might harm or kill you. A deer, talbuk, giraffe don't exactly strike the fear in my heart the way most of our other pets do, especially the ferocity ones. As implied earlier, "to each their own," but if they're going to add new families beyond the three that are already announced I want them to be something that would make an opponent think twice about attacking me instead of said opponent wanting to "pet" my pet instead.

Ok, what about adding mammoths and shoveltusks to the rhino family and opening the class up to everyone? Or opening up the dino family to include thinder lizards and the whole assortment of dinos in Ungoro? (Personally, I'd still like a giraffe pet lol)

While I'm not impressed or overly excited by the current additions, I see no reason to whine or complain about it atm.
All you're doing is complaining about an unfinished product.
If you called to order takeout, would you complain about them screwing up your food before they'd even made it?

There's no reason to panic yet. Just enjoy the game and wait for the pet pass. :)

As for not getting anything new and only having things removed, have another look. We get some very nice things and changes actually.

Personally, I'd see Talbuks/Stags as Tenacity pets. You ever hit bambi with your car? They might not walk away from it (though most of the time they walk away and die somewhere else) but they WILL screw up your car, you hit a buck wrong and you can total your car. The only thing that doesn't get totaled from nailing those is a truck and those are still damaged pretty bad depending on how you hit them. (I feel for people who have them come through their windshields because they hit them wrong and they fly up instead of down. /cringe)

Also, what pet stops your enemies from attacking you? Honestly, I'm curious because I've seen people not look twice at anything but a crab and spider and that's only because the hunter backed off while the crab/spider held them in place. I've seen people just let a Devilsaur pound on them while they killed the closest human player while someone with range takes down the Hunter. I have NEVER seen any pet be a threat to another player, but maybe I've just not seen the right pets in action.

If they'd been known to screw up the order more than get it right or had been (to me) slipping lately? Yeah, I would. If I was right more often than wrong, then it's time to find a new takeout place.

If we didn't speak up when Blizz changed something in a way we didn't like (for more than a "Change bad!!11" reason) then we'd have those lovely new forums with our real names plastered all over them. They don't know we don't like a new feature or change if we don't tell them.

Hunters are disappointed in only getting three new pet types? Well maybe they'll add more or maybe they won't, but they KNOW we'd like more and we've name dropped a few pets we'd like and if it's doable maybe they'll surprise us with tameable Hydra/Basilisk/Thunderlizards. We don't know unless we let them know our thoughts on what they've done so far.

On a strictly gaming/fantasy level, you're absolutely right that NO type of pet will prevent another NPC or player from attacking you. I've just sort of been viewing this from a more "realistic" sense, maybe it's that I tend to want to roleplay my available pet selection, but I still won't be convinced a giraffe is an appropriate pet to attack something with (same goes for unprocessed venison).

Once again though, I didn't hijack this thread a bit to be a troll. I just never personally understood why so many hunters wanted to utilize these animals for pets in game.

However, if Blizzard does eventually give the masses what they want in a deer/talbuk/shoveltusk family of some sort. I do hope they grant all of the permutations and not just one or the other. Otherwise they create the same lack of logic of allowing T-rexs, but not the stegosaurs and other "dinosaurs" currently in the game.

I want to know why I can't tame squirrels, rabbits, or frogs yet.

I would rather be able to tame a squirrel than to have another Spirit Beast, IMO.
