But we've all moved on, right?

Well on one hand, this skin is wonderful, it's the only skin that I really dreamed of and hoped to be available again in Cata.
On the other hand, being a spirit beast makes this wolf a collector's item way more than a full-time companion available in any spec.
Maybe someone could post the suggestion to turn this beast into a regular wolf while Blizz still listen to the community?..

Ehn....I always thought this model was ugly, but that's just my opinion, so don't listen to it.

Congratulations to those who've been waiting for one. The ghost wolf has never appealed to me, but great find as always Wain!

Good thing Blizzard is normalizing all pets (or at least trying to)... because then being a Survival or MM hunter doesn't mean you HAVE to have a wolf to do great DPS.
I'm just sayin'...
I don't think I could care less if Blizzard kept the old model as a wolf and the new model as a spirit beast. Blizzard 'let' the hunters who had tamed the spirit wolf keep it... they even said it was never intended to be a hunter pet. They could at any time take it away from anyone who had tamed it if they wanted to...
Sure, people would complain... but what percentage of hunters actually have the spirit wolves? Then compare it to how many hunters had Volley... and that was removed. Or how many <insert class here> had the skill <insert skill here> that has also been removed over the years... do you not think they are use to hearing people complain?
I truly hope they keep the old wolves as wolves... there is no reason to change them... but does Blizzard really need to have a reason?
They can still fall back on the "The first tameable spirit wolves were unintended to be tamed." line if they change their class.
Everyone.... keep your fingers crossed.
Either way... I'll have to decide on several pets who will get removed from my "tame after Cataclysm" list

Oh my god....O_O Do my eyes deceive me? No! No, it's the spirit coyote!
I *started* my hunter specifically for that spirit wolf, pushed leveling him as fast as I possibly could before Blizzard could patch it and make that pet untameable. That model is the sole reason Tanin even exists...and he missed it. I couldn't get him the gear he needed in order to make the tame happen before Blizz patched it and put that wolf out of my reach forever. I was devastated, and dropped playing my hunter for a long time to return to my priest and continue raiding. With the spirit beasts, I thought maybe there was a suitable replacement for my hunter, and picked him up again.
And now it's back! YAAAAYY! \o/ This is such a happy day!

Yay! I just said to my daughter 15 minutes ago that if they made a spirit beast with this skin I would tame it! (I hadn't seen this thread yet)
I don't like the Nordrend wolf model myself, and am not too fond of the other spirit beast either. But this one looks lovely, I'm sure it will find a happy home in my stables come Cata

Yes Blizzard can certainly do whatever they like - they've already proven (Garwal et al) that they're capable of standing up to any amount of player outrage, but my sense is that they prefer to pick their (largescale) battles carefully, and to me at least, messing with the existing wolf just seems like going out of their way to look for trouble esp since as noted the new SB has a new NPC ID... but ultimately yes, we're at Blizzard's mercy. No two ways about it.

Sad, sad, sad. I will miss being somewhat unique with my ghost wolf. I think it’s great that they made this model available for some, but why not make it a diff color or shade? Why did they have to make it exactly the same as the spirit wolf? They're being a little lazy if you ask me.
One thing I hate is seeing 10k hunters with the same pet. Even if it is a rare spawn it’s just a matter of time before they are all over the server.
The only saving grace is that it’s a spirit beast so won’t see them much in raids with BM in its current state.
Maybe I'm being a little touchy, I won’t really worry about it as long as the current wolf remains unchanged, which is most likely.
Grats to those who have wanted it for so long.

I am pretty sure that WoW is not the game to play if you want to be unique (Hi every female troll hunter with the same face). That said, your regular wolf spirit will still be very unique. And why not? Lots of people like it. I say forget the crowd and use what you like. I ... do just fine in raids with BM though. >>

Wonderful to see that they are bringing back the Ghost Wolf! It's nice to see this model and know that I might be able to tame it still without the crazyness of when they found this beauty the first time ^^

Yay I am so excited! Ive always wanted this wolf! I dont care if its a spirit beast.. considering how much recently Ive been playing BM spec.. odd... Sas doesnt even have her other spec chosen yet.. hmm.. ah well But I usually pvp with BM spec for the whole free heals and stuff.
And the buffs are nice so I can even raid if I wanted to. Not like cata is full of different raids anyways lol.
But I didnt even know this game exsisted when the spirit wolf came out.. and everytime I saw him with a hunter I was like.. !! I want!
So I am soo glad they made him tameable, and I really hope they leave the other ones as regular wolves for you guys but seriously for those of us who missed the boat, or didnt even play its great that blizzard is bringing them for the new players who really wanted it.
Oddly enough though Cataclsym seems to be the whole "end of the world!" type thing, it seems to be more of.. Ressurrecting old skins

I think blizzard is listening to the hunter community and is actually giving us something neat to look forward to. I mean how many of us wanted Gezz, and Sapphire queen? And I know soo soo many people who wanted this model.
And now.. im off to change my taming list.. Again.
Thanks again for the find Wain you rock!

For those who already had the ghost wolf tamed, this is devastating.
Unfortunately for them, they are the severe minority. On the most populated RP server, Moon Guard, only 1 hunter has that wolf. That shows how few it is. So to keep from an outcry of the majority of hunters, they probably will make it a spirit beast.

I'm not sure how it's devastating. I tried to help a friend get it when it was tamable but we could never get a friendly shaman.

I've seen like a couple of them on Feathermoon, but yeah. It'll be nice to see more happy hunters.

I'm sorry but outcry or not, how can it be fair to turn this into a spirit beast and thereby force the owners of said Wolf to use BM? The whole reason that the new buff/debuff system has been implemented in its current form (with both exotic and normal pets having the same buff) is to ensure that there is no outcry from 'WHY must be BM to do XYZ buff/debuff???!!!!!!!
When I first say it I thought, cool I can has this awesome wolf.. then hmm spirit beast... Not cool!

Well, it is good to see that the model has been reimplemented as a tameable pet into the game!
As far as it goes for the old wolves, I think it would be a bad idea to move them into the Spirit Beast family. The people who have previously managed to tame it shouldn't have to see it suddenly shoved into another family! Just because you play a hunter does not automatically make you a fan of being a BM hunter.

The only thing I am worried about is having two different beasts that look exactly the same being two different pet families. ...and I think that will be what Blizzard falls back on...
I can't think of any existing models of pets that look EXACTLY the same but are in two different families. The newly tameable ghostly blue birds in BEM (from Wain's thread) are listed as birds of prey, but are clearly carrion birds... BUT... they are the only ones to use the skin.
Blizzard could scale down one of the models of spirit wolves, or make one skin larger than the other to show the difference... but I am not sure if a non-hunter would be able to know which is which until they are taught to look for the subtle differences.
