All my hunts have a white bear for Iceberg from EQ... my little hunter currently has a grey diseased bear which I love.

Tell you what - how bout they give bears higher shoulders and replace "rest" with something ubercute, like they pop out a unicycle and peddle around in a little circle?

Despite all the fighting in this thread over shoulders and big bear butts, my problem with bears was never either of those. My problem personally with WoW bears is... well I just don't care for tenacity pets. My playstyle is kill fast and kill it before it kills me, which usually lends to ferocity pets.
The only thing that would let me choose a bear to actually play with, is letting me choose my pets talent spec (such as tenacity spirit beasts and ferocity bears), which is something I've been suggesting for years @_@ If I were allowed to choose my spec, then maybe just maybe, I would actually get more than 2 tenacity pets

I tend to prefer cunning pets over tenacity pets for their versatility, and bears to me are just so...bland. White bear, black bear, and "Here's a shade of dirty brown with/without flesh missing bear". There's not a whole lot of choices to be made if you want something interesting. It's not the bear's fault, or the developers/artists. Bears are a shade of generic brown/black/white naturally. It just doesn't click with me since I as a player prefer colorful pets.

I think the bears are adorable. <3 I've always thought they were cute. Granted, I don't have any tamed any more, but I preferred it over some of the other tenacity pets.

I think what turns me off of the bear is the whole head lower then butt pose, and the lack detail on thier skin. they look fat and flat. They need some highlights.
And a panda model wouldnt hurt

I'm not a big fan of bears, but Toeph's polar bear, Iroh, has grown on me. Maybe it's because he was such a pain to get, sneaking into Alliance territory at level 11, so I want to make him worthwhile. Plus, the Rest ability is absolutely adorable! Also, when me and two other guildies ran classic Shadowfang, we each had bears with us -- the Three Bears!
I think bears are like any other pet, you either click with them, or your don't. More choice in non-diseased colours would be a bonus though.
And a panda model wouldnt hurt
Pandas would be awesome, but we're unlikely to see them as combat pets. In China, it's apparently illegal to show, even in fiction, the death of a panda. With at least half of all WoW players being in China, that's probably something Blizzard won't change. Another panda companion pet would be nice though.
I'd still like to see a friendly-to-both-factions (and hence unkillable) village of Pandaren NPCs.

I always keep my diseased black bear Chemosh in an active slot, kinda grown fond of just how ugly it is. I think just adding a few more colors would be great, in fact if Blizz would just put in a bear using that ice blue skin I'd be a happy camper

Well, it's not the ugly that bothers me - like you I think that can be cool in a way (case in point Jormungar et al), it's the more fundamental issue of how wow bears stand.
I didn't used to think about it much, but recently after watching some documentaries on bears I started thinking "now that is one DAMN impressive animal, lurching around in the wild - so why don't wow bears seem as impressive to me?", and that's when I decided to do a side-by-side.
By all means, keep the zombie look, add more detail / accessories, I'm even okay with the perma-snarl - I'm just hoping Blizzard will consider adding some bears with a more bearlike stature. They don't have to replace any of the existing models - I recognize other players do like the raised rear-end look - just add some new models with same skin but a more looming stance for those who want it.

The wow bear models are ugly...plain and simple. Their ears don't look like the ears of any creature i've ever seen before lol and while the awkward posture isn't all that annoying to me, it doesn't detract from the ugliness either. I also find it incredibly disappointing how small bears shrink to once tamed. It's a friggin bear! Bears are meant to be huge...irl black bears are about the only bear that aren't omg huge...and even then they're not dinky. If they let us tame Ursangous I'd get a bear though

Blizzard altered the entire Wrath of the Lich King expansion in China since China also has issues with skeletons being shown in video games. Blizzard went as far as to change icons, remove the skeletons left behind by formerly dead players, and even change some parts of the undead player model to cover the bare bones to comply with the Chinese government's issue with skeletons.
If they can do it with skeletons in an expansion thats.. well.. that was pretty much 99.9% killing undead things, I'm sure they could do it with pandas

So Panda pets may not be that much of a pipe dream X3

Just have tamed pandas despawn instead of going through a death animation. As for the wild pandas that hunters would actually tame, make it so that they become immune to any CC or damage when their health drops below a given point, and they flee the scene to save their lives. Then have
The Cleaner spawn, berating you for harming a panda as it kills you

ROFL
No hurting of pandas allowed!
