I have a question about careful aim; let's say you have careful aim 2/2 and you start casting aimed shot whilst the mob is at like 95% health, but by the time the cast completes, the mob has been reduced to say 70% health - does your shot still get the +60% crit chance? E.g. when does it check mob's health to determine if your aimed/steady/cobra was eligible for the crit bonus?

It checks for multipliers and stuff when the spell hits. For something like Arcame Blast it's the moment the spell finishes, for something with a ''missile'' effect, a spell that doesn't hit instantly but rather flies, like Fireball or all hunter shots it's when the spell impacts the enemy.

Ugh. I was afraid of that. Basically means the only way to be sure of getting the careful aim bonus outside of a raid is to open with MD + aimed before anyone else even reaches the mob, far as I can see...

Hopefully for PvP they'll look into more broken mechanics; I'm VERY happy with the Disengage changes but the traps/trap launcher need some serious reworking (even for PvE if I'm honest). But tweaking our DAMAGE I think isn't the problem--as BM I've been top in the raids I've been in so far, so I think hunters are okay, for the most part, in PvE right now. Changing our damage to boost us in PvP will just make us OP in PvE--we need something different, regarding mechanics & defensive cooldowns, and hopefully that is what's behind the Deterrance, Master's Call and--if we're lucky--future changes.
And btw, I don't understand what's wrong with the post title, could someone explain? Tallstriders' family special is going to be buffed to be the same as that of Foxes, so err, I don't see the issue, am I being blind?

The discussion has gone far beyond that. It's a little misleading. I personally think something like "Upcoming hunter changes!" would be a better title.

I think they meant that the title should perhaps reflect not only the Tallstrider change but also the rest of the changes remarked in the first post.

Something like "4.0.6 changes: tallstriders, shale spiders, and more" could work.

Nice to hear about the tallstrider fix, but this was what really caught my eye - while I didn't consider MM spec exactly "broken", neither was I seeing any compelling reason to use it - seemed like BM and SV could do everything as good or better. And that's at lvl 80; in the lower levels it really did stink - case in point I tried it on my new goblin hunter and found I was doing way better with arcane (more dps, less focus use) than aimed shot; okay I guess when you get the higher level talented proc but c'mon - is that really all aimed was meant to be good for?
So, great news - can't wait to try out MM on my belf, and hopefully it will be worth switching my goblin back to MM from SV...
Well, level 80 is actually quite different than level 85. SV's mastery will buff Cobra Shot, which is only available at level 81. Also, gear isn't itemized the same thanks to mastery being taken into account. So, at 85, BM and MM are in fact hurting in terms of DPS. These changes were most certainly necessary.

I honestly like Aimed as it is now rather than what the Wrath version was. I liked back in Vanilla/TBC having an opening shot that was almost a nuke. I think the way they have it now is fabulous, and wouldn't really take it for any other version of it, except maybe one.
Which brings me to my next point. I think it would be neat to have Aimed shot apply serpent sting, as it is an opening shot, and most of our openings for bosses consists of Serp Sting, why not make it, as a channeled shot, more prominent in it's use, opening up to a battle.
