The pet families have definitely been considered, but I think we all feel that's too much of an opinionated subject. There's no way to 'rank' the species since everyone is partial to their own favourites. While Spirit Beasts may be the epitome of awesomeness for some, to another person something like a plain Bear would be the best. The pet theme certainly matches well in theory, but to try to assign a hierarchy is a no go I'm afraid.

No, just no. Any image that small will be very hard to make out, and people will never agree that the bear is better than the tallstrider. Plus, having a different image for each rank would lead to the same problem that we have with the current system. If you have to have something, a simple picture/set of pictures is best, such as a bar, or the goddamn ugly pawprints.

I figured as much but I thought to throw it in the pot anyway just to see if somehow we could get a way to work it. Well what of the Aspects then?

I think the haveing differnt beasts repersenting rank would do more bad than good. I mean you may think Spirit Beasts are cool but I don't :S. Aspects would only work if you used the olds ones aswell as theres only 4 now.

I'd go with little hunter marks or somesuch. Not paw prints as not every one uses things with paws but every one uses huntermarks.

It was already mentioned that having animals as our icons would probably end up badly.

Cow, if we did use pawprints, they don't have to symbolize hunters that use pets with paws, they're just a standard symbol that represent animals (paws or not), and someone mentioned that they're the symbol of Petopia or something like that.

Hunters Marks, stars, arrows, little bows/crossbows/guns could work as well.

Edit: Also, another thought regarding the pawprints/whatever gets chosen idea, have them color-coded to go with the colors our names turn when we achieve a certain post count. For example, Mania's paws (or whatever) would be maroon, the mods would be purple, the hunter trainers' would be blue, and so on and so forth.

I made these, which are more of a picture rather than pawprints/a single name.

Would there be an option to turn off the images? I don't know, I'm kind of used to things the way they are now. I'm fine without changing it.

That said, if there has to be images...

Mania's always been known for her fondness of red crabs. My mention of the pet families was more of a "This probably wouldn't work as a ranking system", but I think Razzy was just making some iconic things for Mania specifically with that. ^^

In my experience with rank images, most won't question their rank image. If it's a black bear for a certain rank, barely anyone would complain. (I say barely because someone somewhere would complain.) I think it would work out smoothly. But I also like the idea of having certain weapons/spell images for certain ranks. A new member could have an image of a small, basic bow/gun? They could upgrade aesthetically as you gain post count?

Maybe a little graphic of the helm associated with the particular rank in the position where the crab is, with the rank name next to it.

This is kind of what I was thinking of when dropping my boyfriend off back at work.

If we do a helm, make it a nice looking one? A lot of helms in WoW aren't exactly pleasant to look at. I keep them turned off most of the time. I like the pawprint idea more cause it's more generic and less complicated. I could go with a small bow/arrow or something too. :3

I personally like Razzy's first idea, the 'rank' that is akin to what titles for npcs are ingame.
