It could be that I need to test some more - I just updated and temporarily subbed back to WoW - but as far as I recall it sadly doesn't work that way and I have no means of finding out otherwise as yet. If it's a coding thing I'll have to poke Ethan about it, and the original site the previous owner used is long gone.
In terms of the Editor, it's simply so you can add your own ideas to the existing (or missing, in the case of lesser dragonkin) families. I could swear though that at one point you could make a custom config per name as well, but it's been too long and I couldn't get it to work on my end either. As for setting the pet's family in-game, that's purely cosmetic and simply changes what other players who don't use PetEmote see.
Sorry for the disappointment.
Oh no, you're fine! I'm just out of my depth with LUA; I'm going to attempt tackling it again because I do love to dig around and figure stuff out! (That or I just may change the emotes for Spirit Beasts into Stormrook emotes, since I don't really use Spirit Beasts ASIDE from the stormrooks)
Edit: I swapped the emotes and it worked well!
After all my futzing, I realized the actual family is based on the pet family in wow and what I was asking was outside the scope of the addon due to game mechanics, so editing the base emotes for my own use is the way to go!

I've actually never touched the LUA script myself either and edit everything with the Editor, so I wouldn't have been much help there anyway

I'm glad you've managed to get things as you prefer them to be!
A small update, I've updated the first post of the thread to reflect current circumstances and put the commands where everyone can see them without going to the CurseForge page. Let me know if it looks good and makes sense!
After going back in the thread I also noticed that there was a bug throwing errors and have notified Ethan/Raven about it. Along with that, Succubus had been untitled somehow and Toads and Cranes had yet to be updated to Hoppers and Waterfowl respectively, so I don't think any of those families would have been emoting properly. An update to fix it should hopefully be available in the near future. Apologies for that!
Lesser Dragonkin emotes will come later.

I finally unlocked lesser dragonkin taming and spent a couple of days with all of the types. Emotes are now available for testing!

I hope everyone who's downloaded the new emotes have been enjoying their newly vocal dragonkin! I caught one typo, so that's been fixed, and will be throwing them over to be added to the main addon soon, so any and all feedback and discussion is appreciated

PetEmote has now been brought up to date with the latest patch. A few things of note:
Clefthooves and Scalehides have had their emotes bulked up a bit (gradually working my way through families with the least emotes).
Mechanicals and Feathermanes have had a couple of emotes tweaked if not fully removed due to how, honestly, childish and jokey they were.
As always, if you have made custom emotes make sure you back them up before updating the addon!
