Yes. gotta click Create Family if you want to make a family. If you wanna breed just normally, then you can pick the mate without clicking create a family.

If no mates are showing, then nothing is available to breed with that particular pet.

Famiky is the 'surname' the last name that every child of that particular creature gets, i have kitsunes from the family Moonfall, they are unable to breed with eachother because they are of the same family. I think you can breed with other families but a lot of players ive seen frown on that and i dare not have them PM me if they discover in their lineage that i bred their family with another family XP, for regular breeding, you dont need to make a family, they dont gain surnames :3

(please dont give my fishy a family name XD i want her to be un-lineaged <3)
