I'm fairly casual about my teams as well. I never quite got into the heavy stats/abilities/strategy focused playstyle (by which I mean the sort of best-in-slot mindset, I guess?). My teams usually end up with very little planning and a lot of spur of the moment bonding, but it seems to work out in the end.

Like others, I kinda start with a plan...then it gets thrown aside, mostly cause I usually don't pay attention to what pokemon are coming out (this is the first time I have) and find new pokemon I end up liking. The most I do is get a certain nature for them, then roll from there.

Ah, Noctowl could work. Although admittedly, I try not to re-use species too much for my main teams, and my SoulSilver team has a Noctowl. XD I am liking the idea of a Honchkrow, the more I think about it, though. I just hope its movepool isn't that bad in XY.

I usually try to plan out a team, mostly for the sake of the fact that my teams ALWAYS end up as characters of some sort, so I like to have an idea of what they're like before I get them in-game, and it saves me the trouble of figuring out a team as I go. I usually end up with a few other Pokemon that I like along the way though, as I sometimes catch other Pokemon to use while I'm waiting for my planned ones.

I'm kind of in the air. I don't really plan my teams too much the first time around, just sort of picking up whatever is badass. I think the only set member of the team will be Sylveon, because as Lord of Eeveelutions I must use one. But other then that, I have no idea how it will go down. The second or third time around though, I usually pick pokemon I haven't used the first time and plan it out a lot more.

Hoping on to the team train late, I tend to sort of haphazardly plan a team after I've already played for a bit and found a few pokémon I like. Then I use those few pokémon as the bare bones of my team, and I go on from there.

In other news, I saw some fan art of Chesnaught where it looked absolutely rabid and now I kind of like it. It's the armor-bound insane rampager of the pokémon world, in my eyes. xD

So I'm so excited for Saturday it isn't even funny. My boyfriend came up with this fun thing for us to do while we wait. Everyday we make up a team of Pokémon from each generation we would use in a team of 6. We cant use more than one legendary though as to not get too overpowered. Today was Gen 3. Tomorrow is 4. Gen 6 will end on Friday RIGHT before Pokémon comes out. It's actually REALLY fun and its nice going down memory lane.

From all the reviews I've read the Charizard one is one of the best of the four. Him and Mewtwo. I have Mewtwo and can say it's a good figure. I think their humanish shapes help them out a lot.
