It's a matter of taste really.
For me its the over all design of the game, the classes are way different and your personal character story makes things interesting.
and for me a big draw is .. it's not gear oriented, sure you need decent gear but there is no real minimum requirements like there is in WoW which for me personally makes heroics and raids in WoW feel like work almost as much as fun but that's my personal oppinion.
The ranger is alot of fun, the pets are abit less interactive than in wow but the class has more options such as switching between equipped weapon sets. random world events.
and if you enter a lower level zone your level goes down to match the zone you're in , sadly the same doesnt happen for higher lvl zones  so you will still get exp for the quests/events you do in those zones.

just my 2 cents :)

Fully agree. I also find GW2's "questing" system far more enjoyable.

Also, greatsword ranger. :P So much fun.

Don't ask me, I'm biased. I will tell you that I haven't had this much fun in an MMO since vanilla WoW. I will tell you that the world is ten times more beautiful than WoW's (although the night elf lands are still gorgeous IMO). I will tell you that the classes are fun to play and that your personal storyline actually keeps you interested. It's not linear, either, which is a big plus for me. Your personal storyline quest does take you from one area to another, of course, but the game encourages exploration. And with the system they use, if you're higher level than the zone you're in, it scales your level down. So basically, you could put off your storyline 'til level 80 if you wanted. When you come back to play in those beginner zones, it'll level you down so you're not rampaging through everything. Some might find it annoying, but I find it enjoyable. It's also hilarious watching level 80s still get creamed by level 6 group champions.

Okay, enough preaching out of me. :) Unfortunately, the free trial weekend ended Sunday. I'd have been more than happy to send you an invite. :(

You can get the drakehound at level 2 at the earliest. They are in several different zones, but for all races after your beginning quest (which will level you to two) travel to your home city and take the asuran portal to Lion's Arch. The juveniles are in the Western Ward on the map.

Just be warned pet AI currently needs major tweaking, and pets have no avoidance so they die to aoe quick. Hopefully they will fix these so pets aren't so squishy and aren't as dumb as a brick.

Otherwise I love this game.

You can take a look here to see what servers we Petopians are on: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 40&t=18766

Other than that you'd have to research what you want to do/join up for. Some servers are better at WPvP, and I assume others have more PvE guidls etc. You can join multiple guilds (and cross server I might add, I found I had a petopian invite despite not being on their server) so if you want to be able to join them just for chatting don't let that make you hesitate to join a diff one. :D

Well crap
1. server with most of us is full
2. we only have 5 Char slots. I guess I really need to decide which ranger race I like best because I know I wont be able to have allot of alts, and I know I want to make a warrior and rogue class, plus who knows if I find something better

can't you buy more toon slots? That's how most f2p mmos work.

And if you don't want to use real money to buy the stuff from the store, you can trade in game currency for the gem currency used in the store. :)

curious, so are there free trials for GW2, or is it completely F2P?

GW2 is free outside of buying the game CD.
you -can- however use rl cash to buy upgrades such as extra character slots, fashion and other items for your character but it is not required.

So upgrades are purely cosmetic?

I wish other games would follow suit. I hate monthly fees.

Are there any free 3 day / 7 day etc trials of the game?
