I was thinking (which is dangerous) that even if my "ghost hydra" becomes a real hydra, I'm still going to tame at least one other hydra, just out of the sheer awesomeness of hydras.

I am logged into the PTR now. My ghost hydra is family Hydra, non-exotic. No skills, no talent tree (yet), but a troll hunter named Sandfur that I ran into in Orgrimmar told me that her ghost hydra still has its old tenacity talents (from when it was a crocolisk) in its spellbook at the moment. Mine eats meat and fish (and raw meat and raw fish) but that might be a leftover from the crocolisk as well.

Aw....Sad it's not exotic. They look really exotic.

Nah, I'm thinking that's just their diet, after all you them almost always by water and something with teeth like that would be a meat eater, and frankly I really can't see them eating cheese and bread (or fruit or fungus). So heray for the meat eaters

Wow this IS good news. Be very interested to see what family they are in (please don't let it be tenacity! )

Can't wait to get Aku'mai and see what (s)he looks like in the light of day.

Guess I'm the only one that wanted them exotic cause BM doesnt get enough love these days. We still have trouble keeping up with SV and MM in top gear. Probably the only reason they didnt make it exotic is cause those who have the ghost hydra already might not be BM.

So then, the PTR FINALLY came up, so I immediately went to check my ghost hydra.. And what I found was pretty interesting.

First thing I noticed.. She has a proper family icon in the stable!! Well, that's someth-- Wait.. "Empty Stable Slot"? What? Apparently, the stables doesn't think she's even there, as when I hovered over her.. It could come up as, indeed, "Empty Stable Slot".

Then I noticed.. I can't access her talents at all. The tab isn't even there! And yet.. She still has her Tenacity talents from live in her spellbook. And she doesn't have ANY special abilities.

Another thing I noticed, though.. In my pet tab, she is, what do you know.. Listed as a Hydra! Huh!

After having a lovely conversation with an Undead Hunter who had her ghost hydra out, I flew off to the Barrens to hopefully find the rare spawn purple hydra at Wailing Caverns.. And he was there! Yet.. Beast Lore stated he was not tamable. Interesting. So, I then hearthed to Orgrimmar, took the zeppelin to Borean Tundra.. Flew to Sholazar Basin, and like the rare.. The Bittertide Hydras were again stated to be untamable by Beast Lore, and Tame Beast even echoed that statement.

Basically, my findings on hydras are..

They have a family-specific icon, but in the stable show up as "Empty Stable Slot".
Their talent tree cannot be accessed at all, but keep their Tenacity talents from live (If they had them).
They have no special abilities yet.
They seem to be non-exotic (Herp derp, forgot to mention that earlier!).
They are listed as Hydra in the pet tab.
So far, it seems that any wild ones have yet to be flagged as tamable. And as of such, the only hydra pets currently usable on the PTR are previously tamed Spirits of Atha.
