There are achievements strictly for COLLECTING things. Blizzard knows it's a strong driving force for a number of people who play this game.
No, this isn't Pokemon (and I don't buy that excuse anyway), but Blizzard keeps giving us opportunities (and incentives to an extent) to gather more pets by introducing more and more skins to the game (a move that I am not at all ungrateful towards). What's going to happen if/when they introduce a new family or two? Hydras, basilisks, kodos, talbuks, stags, giraffes... whatever it is people are secretly hoping for.
Hahaha yes, I think many folks, especially those who play hunters are collectors at heart. I don't even like tabards and I must have equipped over 30 by this point as well (and if they implement the tabard tab I will have to rebuy all the ones I sold, just because). And I'm grateful that now we can collect mountains of mounts and companions, if we want to. For those who want them, they're gold and time sinks, for those who don't, it doesn't change how the game is played for the most part.
Not saying we should get unlimited pet stable slots. I'd just like to see the option of more, up to some higher but still reasonable threshold (what that would be would be probably varies per person

) in order to accomodate new skins and pet families in future patches or different specs or just to satisfy the collector in some.
At the beginning of Wrath (and maybe throughout, I don't remember) the last 2 stable slots had to be purchased, so buying stable slots with gold has been done already.

But thats Wrath. This is cata. Totally different expansion and way different way to work hunters.
I say my idea for having as many stable slots as we desire(or maybe max is 50) but we have to buy them. first 10 start out like 10g. The next 5 are 20g. Next 5 is 50g. Final 5 is 75g. Would make a wonderful gold sink.

It would indeed be a glorious gold sink to be able to tame all the pets I want just because I like how they look and not because I feel the need to have different options for buffs, debuffs, and utility.

Exactly! That way those who dont give a hoot to collect to stay doing that and those of us who do will gladly pay up the gold for the extra slots.

Well said! I mean, sure, right now I only let myself keep pets I have a "bond" with... but damn it I'd love to tame some pets that were just shiny and pretty or useless and amusing without having to justify the use of every slot! *grumble*

Loki wrote:Unlimited stable slots, but they cost something fairly heavy each over 25, like 1000g or 500g. No harm in it, adds another gold sink to the game, and makes hunters who want more pets happy. I think this would be the best solution.
I am also a first time poster and long time reader. I have to completely agree with this statement. I would rather concentrate on one hunter than to have had to make additional hunters just to satisfy my desire to have other pets that my main hunter cannot hold. I have honestly dreaded having to abandon any of the rares I have taken the time to find and tame just to add more new and exciting pets. I was around when we only had 3 slots. I am still around after the 25 +5 were added. I am honestly grateful that Blizzard has added more slots when they released all new content. It was in the case of many of us collectors very necessary. Whether you only choose to have 1 pet or many many more is really up to the individual. I did have to resort in making a second hunter and I am not unhappy with the decision but I would have rather been able to focus on one hunter. You can have unlimited amount of companions and unlimited amount of mounts why not unlimited stable slots at our expense?

Two reasons I can think of:
Companions and mounts can be enjoyed by every player in the game, and hunter pets are just for one class.
Hunter pets have to keep track of more data than companions and mounts: in addition to which particular npc was tamed, pet name, pet level and pet talents must be remembered. Not a lot of data, but for 25 pets it's not trivial. Hunters already require more information per pc than any other class.
We are already the most customizable class in the game. I'd rather be grateful for what we have.

Agreed 100%
Would I like more stables? Hell yes.
But i am happy with what they have given us.

I too would love to have more slots even if we have to pay. There are so many pets and rares that I know the slots I have won't be enough.
Right now I'm only level 55 but once I get higher up and be able to tame the rares I'm definitely going to have a hard time deciding which to keep...only because of slots. sheesh

I am reminded of a famous quote from a children's book: "If you give a Mouse a Cookie ... he's going to want a glass of milk".
It seems no matter what the final number of stables hunters are given, there's always going to be someone who wants more. Eventually, when will it ever be enough?
Personally, I am very complacent with what we have already. While I sympathize with all the hunters who want rare/unique pets, spirit beasts, etc., I believe having too many stables lessens the bond between the hunter and their pet. Perhaps with the addition of new pet families and such, a few more stable spaces would be justified (35 sounds good to me). I just don't agree with the "infinite tame" mentality.
Hunter pets are not talbards, and they definitely should not be classified in the same category as vanity pets. They are a viable and important mechanic to the hunter class and their damage capability, and as such, should be regarded with respect.

I completely agree with the current number not being enough. -.-
Blizzard keeps HANDING us more gorgeous pets to love and tame, but we're running out of room and having to resort to our alt hunters (at least, that is how it is in my case)! x.x
But I don't want the income of new pets to stop either!! <.<

The problem is that people never have enough. If we get another 25, after a few weeks people would ask for more.
Unlimited pets? Meaningless. Life is about choices, you can't have all the things you want. I find it would be very boring to have all pets, and another "let's make things super easy" move from Blizz. So no thanks, I'm fine with my slots.

I may be greedy but I want more slots. It's not such a big deal to blizzard to give us hunters more slots, even if we have to pay for them. There are so many pets to tame now and many more to come that honestly what we now have is certainly not enough. I know I am going to have a hard time once I can tame the rare elites to decide which to keep and which to abandon

I would like to have more stable slots, sure. But I'm thrilled with the 25 we have; it's so much better than the 5 in WotLK. Besides, I already have some pets that feel like "box pokemon" to me -- just sitting in the stable just to say I have them, never seeing the light of day. I think the more slots we have, the more box pets we'll accumulate.
25 is a lovely compromise. I never again have to agonize over letting go of a pet I really love and have bonded with, like I did in Wrath. I hated letting go of my raptor to tame Skoll, and my warpstalker for a worm. Once the new stables came in, those were the first two I retamed. At the same time, fewer of my pets risk becoming stable warmers.
I'm actually not maxed out on Cerah. At 85 she has like 4 slots left to fill. Besides, if I want even more pets, I can always make more Hunters
