Sukurachi wrote:are the areas after the opening any "brighter"? I only got to get to the first "boss fight" of the free trial version last month. At that level, and in that trial version, there was nowhere else to go. At least, none that I could find. I found the entire starting zone too dark (it reminded me of Tirisfal Glades.. a starter zone I absolutely detest, and one of the reasons I have not a single Undead character).

Who knows, maybe I'll get Rift next year.
I found that when I kicked the graphics up to medium instead of low, the whole area got a lot brighter. I was having darkness issues too.

And it depends on if you're guardian or defiant. I namely play defiant and haven't gotten very far in the guardian side. From what I've seen, the guardian side is a lot more foresty, so at lower graphics settings it'll look really dark (plus Rift swaps between day and night like WoW and certain rifts make the areas dark). The defiant side is a lot more open and seems to be less dark looking.

thank-you Tyger.
who knows, as I said, I'm not entirely closed to the idea of playing Rift. At this time, my play time is rather constrained, and WoW is enough to keep my interest.

Continuing on to Cowmu's comments:
For me, graphics are not really a consideration. As long as the graphics don't require the use of a supercomputer to run the game, I'm happy.

Final Fantasy 11 had quite realistic graphics, as far as I'm concerned, and it made for a very appealing sort of gameplay.

My only issue with graphics as a selling point in a game, is when the makers of a game go all-out on graphics, but don't actually DO anything with the inner workings of the game itself, or in the case of an RPG or MMORPG, nothing story-wise.

Regarding my first issue with "graphics" in a game, if I recall correctly, Final Fantasy 14 is one game in question that requires a rather stalwart PC to run. This completely precludes my ever playing it. I can't afford to be changing my computers willy-nilly just for gameplay. I use them for work! hehehehe

Are EU and US servers locked from each other? Can I, in the EU, make an account and play on US servers? Might pick this up and join you, Tyger.

I'm not sure, tbh Sat. I think there's EU people on our server, but I'm not sure if there's different servers for different regions or not.

I can be found on Galena, mostly defiant side for anyone interested. :)

*Scribbles down*
Galena, Defiant...

Defiant are the dark themed guys, right?

I guess you can call them dark themed. Essentially they're a faction based around machinery and technology. Where the Guardians have their Vigil, the Defiants have their machines and such. :)

I rolled a guardian on Alsbeth when my account was still a trial since they can't make more than two characters per server. I'll probably never play it though since my bf and rl friend play on Galena. XD

My characters are: Nattalya, Vitani, Valnara, and Invidia

So I'm kind of digging the quadruple specs we can get in Rift. Makes it so I only feel like I need one of each class to experiment all I want with.

Anyway, my mage is my main and normally she's Chloro (heal-ish spec), but I dual specced her for DPS now that I've got most of my extra souls unlocked (very easy process; you can grind em all in a day). Her little wind elemental buddy is funny/cute looking. Meet Dustbuster:

And then a closer look at my mage (she's a Kelari). I love the way she looks. ^_^

RIGHT. So, just signed up for that trial thing. They are DEFINITELY limiting my downlink, because this is laughable. I mean, my connection is suck, but it's not THIS much suck.

Right, anyway, probably be joining you this evening, Tyger. ^^

Yeah, I was looking into that. I'd, er, need a step-by-step "I'm talking to an utter moron!" walkthrough to install it, though. >.<
