It should be!

And it's a bulletin board so of course there will be squabbles. You could probably log on to a Buddhist peace forum board and find the occasional flamewar. But on Petopia it seems to be very limited. Most of the community does seem to get along and is pretty supportive :) The most likely threads to attract arguments seem to me to be ones, like this, based mostly on speculation where nobody has any fresh data to back up their arguments, so imaginations run wild on both sides.

Thing is the thing with melee weapons ..

That was a blue post from the Q & A, so we can be pretty positive we can equip it at least.

But back on topic im still hoping they fine tune the old pets to be less pixelated. Some of them really need love to.. Devilsaurs id love more of thats for sure and core hounds. Nothing more awesome then seeing a devilsaur come out of nowhere and eat you.. go go un goro!

Since you seem determined to dredge up the topic of melee weapons despite claiming it's offtopic, here's an update.

People do understand they can be equipped purely for the sake of looks, the point of contention is what happens (or what some feel should happen) when your hunter is at point blank, e.g. should there at least be a visual of you swinging that melee weapon, or should it remain something you can only see on your toon outside of combat by actually swapping it into the space used by your ranged weapon.

Go here for the details: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 39&t=15968

I'd also recommend posting any thoughts about that subject there as well, if you don't want to see it discussed here. :)

They already do...

And so on...

We don't need melee weapons, we just need to be able to use the bayonets that they are putting on the ends of our guns!!!!! (Sorry bow users, you'll need to poke arrows at the enemy..  )

All of this profound brilliance has inspired me to something even better - just have hunters hold their 2h swords like they were rifles, and shoot them whilst making "pew pew" sounds. Now if they get stuck in melee, it won't look so strange. 8-)

FIX'T.

I think you will have to manually swap it, as there will be no specific slot for ranged - there will be just "weapon" slot - and in it, you will have either a ranged or melee weapon; and if you have melee weapon there, you can't use most of your abilities.

Well yes, that's how it is currently set up to work, based on what we know from the Q&A sessions.

Of course, at this stage in the development process everything is very much up in the air, so you're going to have a lot of things that may seem suboptimal, awkward, or just plain weird.

The question now is how the rough draft for 5.0 will be groomed and polished over the next 6-12 months.

Well, then unless any of us sits down in the devs' office, no one can tell for sure what's going to really happen (and even then...). All we can do is state our opinions, and there isn't much to disprove either. Can it work this way? Yes. Can it work the other way? Yes, too. So after we state the opinions... what's the discussion about?

People trying to convince people who don't agree with them that their opinion is the Right One and that they should Change Their Mind.

We were originally told we wouldn't be able to equip melee weapons. Players expressed dissatisfaction. 2 weeks later we are told "actually scratch that, you will be able to equip them... just for looks".

What does this prove? That devs do pay attention to player opinions and sometimes make changes to accommodate them.

There is none at that point actually, until someone comes along and misrepresents the facts.

Yup, pretty much - although I wouldn't restrict that just to Petopia. :)

Indeed, this sort of thing is everywhere. There just happens to be quite a lot of it here.

As with so many other places - but places where everyone shares the same opinions about everything can be just as bad, due to how they tend to polarize their forumgoers.

...

What was the topic again?
