That was a blue post from the Q & A, so we can be pretty positive we can equip it at least.Class Design & Balance Q&A

All of this profound brilliance has inspired me to something even better - just have hunters hold their 2h swords like they were rifles, and shoot them whilst making "pew pew" sounds. Now if they get stuck in melee, it won't look so strange.Slickrock wrote:They already do...Royi wrote:just make the hunter weapons look like this:

And so on...
We don't need melee weapons, we just need to be able to use the bayonets that they are putting on the ends of our guns!!!!! (Sorry bow users, you'll need to poke arrows at the enemy..![]()
)
I think you will have to manually swap it, as there will be no specific slot for ranged - there will be just "weapon" slot - and in it, you will have either a ranged or melee weapon; and if you have melee weapon there, you can't use most of your abilities.Worba wrote:Since you seem determined to dredge up the topic of melee weapons despite claiming it's offtopic, here's an update.
People do understand they can be equipped purely for the sake of looks, the point of contention is what happens (or what some feel should happen) when your hunter is at point blank, e.g. should there at least be a visual of you swinging that melee weapon, or should it remain something you can only see on your toon outside of combat by actually swapping it into the space used by your ranged weapon.

I'd also recommend posting any thoughts about that subject there as well, if you don't want to see it discussed here.
Well, then unless any of us sits down in the devs' office, no one can tell for sure what's going to really happen (and even then...). All we can do is state our opinions, and there isn't much to disprove either. Can it work this way? Yes. Can it work the other way? Yes, too. So after we state the opinions... what's the discussion about?Worba wrote:Well yes, that's how it is currently set up to work, based on what we know from the Q&A sessions.
Of course, at this stage in the development process everything is very much up in the air, so you're going to have a lot of things that may seem suboptimal, awkward, or just plain weird.
The question now is how the rough draft for 5.0 will be groomed and polished over the next 6-12 months.

We were originally told we wouldn't be able to equip melee weapons. Players expressed dissatisfaction. 2 weeks later we are told "actually scratch that, you will be able to equip them... just for looks".Andine wrote:Well, then unless any of us sits down in the devs' office, no one can tell for sure what's going to really happen (and even then...). There is none at that point actually, until someone comes along and misrepresents the facts.Andine wrote:Yes, too. So after we state the opinions... what's the discussion about?
Is that not just Petopia in general?Kalliope wrote:People trying to convince people who don't agree with them that their opinion is the Right One and that they should Change Their Mind.Andine wrote:So after we state the opinions... what's the discussion about?
Yup, pretty much - although I wouldn't restrict that just to Petopia.cowmuflage wrote:Is that not just Petopia in general?Kalliope wrote:People trying to convince people who don't agree with them that their opinion is the Right One and that they should Change Their Mind.Andine wrote:So after we state the opinions... what's the discussion about?
Indeed, this sort of thing is everywhere. There just happens to be quite a lot of it here.Worba wrote:Yup, pretty much - although I wouldn't restrict that just to Petopia.cowmuflage wrote:Is that not just Petopia in general?Kalliope wrote:People trying to convince people who don't agree with them that their opinion is the Right One and that they should Change Their Mind.
