It sounds weird to say it, but tarantulas really seem to have such personalities! Some of them can be such brats, while others are absolute dolls. They're so fun!

Wow, that's very cool. I had no idea they build like that :)

I'd suggest fly paper outside the tank.

Just kidding :)

Sabbath is molting again! :D I caught him in the act, so this time I get to watch. I wish I could post pictures buy my boyfriend has the camera on a trip.

This must be why he started building up his hide hill. It's perfect since it's against the wall of the tank and I can peek in even though he's closed off the entrance.

Yay!!! I bet he'll be all fuzzy and adorable when he emerges. :3 I noticed that mine lay a ton of silk when they're getting ready to molt. I call it a "molt mat". :P

Yup, he's got his little molt mat on the floor of his 'cave'. :D Going to give him a week to settle down then I'll see if I can extract the molt somehow. Hopefully I don't have to dig up his hill.

I'm not too big a fan of spider (no hate but no love) however watching this little guy grow from the little bottle cap in your hand made him probably my knew favorite spider XD I will samir he was a cut baby spider, and I want to see him in his new molt when you're able to.

Although question, my cousin is thinking about getting a tarantula, and he's not sure about this, do I'd figure I'd ask. Have they ever bitten you while you're holding them? Do they let you hold and pet them nicely or do they freak out?

D'aww! ^^ I'll definitely try to get some pictures once my boyfriend's home with the camera.

I've never been bitten. I don't make a habit of holding them too often, especially not Shelob since she's a bit grumpy, but as long as you know their behaviour and habits there's usually no problem. Tarantulas aren't really something you 'pet', if you tried to stroke them like that it would probably freak them out a bit and potentially cause a bite or some hair flinging (not to mention you'd likely get urticating hairs on you anyways by petting them xD). When handling they're just beautiful to watch and observe them walking or sitting on your hand.

I don't handle Sabbath much at this point since he's at the age where he's very fast and likely to zoom off. G. pulchras are known to be a bit skittish when they're young, and I don't want him to dart off and hurt himself or get lost. Once he gets bigger though he'll calm down and should be super docile. :)

Rottingham, I don't know of any arachnids (spiders and such) that are especially suited to being handled a lot. If your cousin is wanting an invertebrate that adapts well to being handled all the time, I'd recommend Madagascar hissing cockroaches instead. PM me if you want to know more, don't want to derail Sabbath's thread.

Veph, I love when pets build nests against the glass!

No real updates since his latest molt, I still haven't managed to get a new photo of him because he's been super shy since then. xD He definitely looks bigger though, he's all leggy. ^_^

I did, however, want to share this new example of his brattyness.

I guess he decided he didn't like being peeked in on, so he's taken away my viewing privileges.

Yup, he blocked off the back of his hide so I can't see in anymore. I can hardly believe it, haha.

Hah! That's exactly what my Cyriocosmus elegans does. I have a little decorative cracked urn meant for fish tanks in her keeper, and she's plugged up all of the fake holes and cracks with the substrate. It's pretty amusing watching her squeeze out of there every night, trying not to destroy her masterpiece.

P.metallicas are beautiful, but I, of course, prefer the p.rufilata as they are ever-so-slightly green. :)

A.purpureas are so cute! Heck, any avics are cute. :3

Agreed! I love how they tend to have little "boots" when they're little. <3
