Actually, profession mounts seem to count even if you can't use them, although class mounts do not seem to. My hunter and mage are both at 149 despite the mage being a tailor with three flying carpets, while my warlock is at 151 due to the Dreadsteed and Felsteed.

Yeah profession mounts do count, regardless of usage.

Mounts that would be better than kites:

Flying Chicken
Flying Penguin
Panda mount

and finally:

It's better than nothing, but for something that takes such an incredible amount of patience, faction grinding, gold, research, and time, the reward is pretty underwhelming.

I only found out about this today. ._. Dunno where people read about it like a month ago...

I'm not pleased about the mount though. The kites look cool, but I've never been a huge fan of the non-animalistic mounts, bar the Mechano-Hog. I was hoping for a more 'unique' mount.
