Ohh... took a little while for it to grow on me. I'm still unsure on some of the animations, but I can't wait to see it in game. o.O They might just con me out of money for yet another mount.

Aha! You've got it! They must be heaters to stop its wings icing up at altitude ;)

OK, thanks for finding that :) At least we can put that down as the likely source now.

I think it fits with the grungy theme of WoD and I kinda like it :) I hope we get a armoured proto-drake we can ride too, they fit really well into the new xpac i think as well.

Would be difficult to explain unless a bunch of them were dragged back in time and across worlds as well! They do look good though.

Thinking about it, they could continue developing the art used for the Thundering Isle birds. They look very feral and gnarly, so something similar in style would fit Draenor very well. In fact I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were an outgrowth of WoD art development, since I think they look more WoD than Pandaria. But who knows?

Better then the Nether Proto drakes they had in BC XD

The ones that were just basilisks? Yeah, I think they got rid of those as a bad idea.

OK, since we had two threads about the Iron Skyreaver running concurrently in different forums, I merged them.

I hope they still make sense!

And since it looks like this mount isn't slated for WoD, the resulting thread is in the Mounts forum.

Your spot on, from the WoD Concept art this model is pretty dam close to the concept....

I suppose there are a few similarities in style. Apart from like, feathers and beaks and stuff...

OK, a few things I noticed about the Skyreaver:
  • there's sadly only one colour in the database so far. But since it's likely to be a store mount, other colours would probably have been lost for all time anyway. Hopefully the mystery chimaera shot in that video background really is a different model and those will be more generally available
  • If you strip off the armour, the model has holes. As it is, it can't be used for a wild beast
  • In its model folder there's also a model for an iron ball, kind of fiery in parts. I'm not sure what it's used for as I can't see it on the mount on the PTR, but I would have guessed it was intended to hang from the hook under its neck or on the superfluous loop at the end of its tail
  • I guess you either love or hate Iron Horde / Garrosh Chic artwork. I'm just not a fan. It works for the raving savages it was designed for, but it's not for me ;)
  • The mountspecial on the PTR has some bugs. What it does is dislocate its right shoulder and take its wing through a painful 360 degree rotation:

Or maybe its trick is semaphore.

I'm still doubting this is a store mount.

To early for it to be anything else, sadly :/
And it makes me sad, because we probably won't see any recolors of it, or any other chimera mounts obtainable in-game. Such a great model, such a great waste :<

That makes me wonder what other kinds of mounts WoD would introduce. We know about dragonflies (hopefuly they don't get scratched /knock-on-wood), what else...
Moar wolves?
Giant arrakoan kaliris?
Iron-horde mechanicals?
A sedan chair carried by ogres?
My Little Gronn?
Sporebats? SPOREBATS~!!

I hate to do it, but it seems like that iron ball is the orangey/yellow thing hanging under the chimera mount's head in the Warlords of Draenor video where we first saw the model. It might be that we don't have more chimera models after all.

Well, at least, with some luck, we'll have unarmored chimera hunter pets with the new model. And that it's a store mount might give the chimera more of a chance to be a mount (different armor/different color, or no armor at all, aside from a saddle) than it would if it were a CE mount. Store mounts are mostly exclusive, but we have the Celestial Steed, whereas the CE Quilen is the only Quilen mount in game.. right now, at least.

A mount like that without the armor I could go for but not that thing. ;-)
