I would not tame a rare just to let it go so no one could kill/tame it thats a bit mean IMO as rares are for every body and it would be a waste of a rare that could be used as a pet or money.

So....
I'm sitting here staring at Arcturis, unable to leave him to be killed by the next person, unable to find a hunter to tame him, and unable to bring myself to dispatch him myself as to spare him the indignity of being killed for profit.
I completely blame this thread. x_x

I was camping a little for Loque last night to see if I got lucky and of course I kept getting the constant fly overs etc and I had what felt like a horrible thought.
I would kill him if I had to. To simply deny a loser from getting their jollies or whatever. I can tell you if I remembered the warriors name that killed Loque right out from under me you better bet I'd follow him to no end and kill everything he wanted just to keep him from getting it. I would run MM spec to. That way I know I'd pull aggro. I would love to let them just once to know how it feels.
Cruel and sadistic ................... yeah.
No I'm not bitter still.

Ok, I propose the following:
If it's a non-tameable, kill it.
If it's a tameable non-unique, kill it, unless it's too low for you, and xp and loot is not worth it.
If it's a unique tameable, leave it alone, unless you need it for the achievement.

I think that hits the mark perfectly.

I'd say unless you need it for the achievement AND just can't live without finishing the whole thing. I for one am having huge amounts of guilt over killing Aotona for Frostbitten the other day. ;___; Not sure if I'll ever be able to kill Loque, who is the last unique rare I need..
Kinda tried repaying the Universe by doing my best to find the Skoll I found the same day a loving home. Unfortunately he was killed by a Horde after around half an hour of whispering to random hunters, most of which never whispered me back and those who did were all "hell no, I like to actually do some DPS thank you very much". :( Slaughtered the Hordie for that. <.< Must've been a bot, since they hardly got a hit at me and killed my pet first. o.o

As long as no one judges those who don't share that sentiment. I felt a little guilty after killing Arcturis because I thought that maybe someone could have come a couple minutes later to get him. But honestly...how can anyone predict that? And it's not like I went and hocked the rare he dropped. It went to the guild bank gear tab for people who are leveling. The money goes to my alts to help them level, and the furs can be used for crafting. I figure as long as you follow the "law of nature", or at least that's what I like to call it, you use everything you get from an animal kill. Now if I swooped down without asking for hunters to tame it, killed it, and then left everything on its corpse and cackled wildly as I ran into the wilderness, that'd be a bit messed up. But I did my part and everything he dropped is going to either the guild or my alts. I see nothing wrong with using the things I got. And I wouldn't appreciate if someone told me I was rude or inconsiderate for doing what I did, especially because I'm always told I'm one of the nicest people out there. I've sent random people gear or money before because it looked like they were struggling. I help out lowbies with their Seal of Wrynn quest because I know no one else will. I helped someone kill an elite in Shadowmoon Valley while I was farming Netherwing rep, even though I really really wanted to finish my rep, I wanted to help someone else out more. So therefore, I see nothing wrong with helping myself or my guild out every once in a blue moon.

I ended up killing that Arc after half an hour of staring at him, simply because a guildie offered to mention that he was up in trade chat....suggesting that I should sell him to a hunter. Uh, no.

No arguments there.

How do you know she saw you? You're making an assumption about something you can't know - how far she zooms out, her camera angle, heck even how far down/up she's turned her graphics. You have to be careful about making that assertion.
...
Being on a giant yellow dragon 30 feet away from her. That kind of stands out in the basin clearings. I guess maybe she was playing the braille version of WoW, never know.

Alright, you didn't mention that. Seeing as you said "I just stood there" I assumed you were on the ground. No need to get testy.
