They don't go back, they delay!

Kotick and Zuckerberg will follow their path: "first we conquer Facebook, then we take the world!"

No need to feed this tyrants any longer.

This explains a lot.
That article is a bit over the top as well. You see ads when you watch TV, right? see them on the cable TV you paid for, see them in a magazine you bought.. see them on websites you visit (that track what ads you click on)...

And we have yet to see marketing directed at us due to a WoW subscription. Perhaps that day is coming, but it's not here quite yet.

A funny side note.. In South Korea, you are REQUIRED BY LAW to use your real name in forums. Guess what one of Blizz's biggest markets is? Yep, SK for SC. So having RealID setup to integreate some stuff makes sense.

It's not really the issue of advertisements. It's the violation of personal identity without controls, and the idea of what they would do next.

I really wonder how much revenue they would actually gain... 10 million subs is still a drop in the bucket to Facebook.

*Sigh* I play this game to relax.
<Not relaxed

Good news is, I'm at low risk for Identity theft, or at least until simply on to the game will get me burned :x

Yeah, but that's 145 million that they are guaranteed in their pocket each month. Add to that server transfers, character re-customizations, name changes, authenticators as well as anything else bought in the Blizz-store. I don't think Facebook makes that much per user per month.

It's true, Facebook and Blizzard's games (and let's not forget that RealID was also planned to work on StarCraft and Diablo forums and games!) are two completely different creatures. If you don't want to spend money on Facebook, you won't. It's as simple as that, the basic service is free. With Blizzard's games, they have a much more attentive audience and a guaranteed income before any potential advertising revenues.
