Well. I have got what they stated to be the most recent one; PetEmote 1.6.4
And yes, if I didn't check it, it wouldn't work. And when I use the load out of date Add0ns. It goes boom, blank chatbox and error messages.
And yep. I did :p
I had the same before, but then I didn't really desire to have PetEmote. But now I do, so it kinda sucks D:

Do you use another mod that affects the chat window? I had to ditch one of mine that was breaking the new default window. >_<

Should I be deleting the old files?

When you extract these into the folder, it will ask you to overwrite the old files. Tell it to go ahead and do it.

Any chance we can see some example emotes, or even a list--a sort of 'try before you buy' thing? I'm hesitant to overwrite the old ones without seeing the replacements first >.<
It sounds like you put a lot of work into this--thesaurus, even! So thanks for the updates

If you don't like the update, you can just re-download the original and overwrite the altered folder.

Acherontia, here are screen captures of the emotes thus far. It's a big file, to warn you. I noted what was done to existing families or if the emotes were all new.

I really like a lot of these! They're making me want to try a bunch of new pets just because of the wonderful personality in the emotes.

So I played around with it last night and really like it. I have a suggestion though... Could we possibly have some emotes that refer more to the spirit-ness of spirit beasts? I found that compared to the other families, the spirit beast emotes were just a bit generic, I guess.
I know it's really individual how people view their spirit beasts but it's just odd to have a spectral bear behave like any other animal... I'll try to think of suggestions.

I would find it incredibly difficult to emote the Spirit Beast family as a whole. There's just so many variances between them and minimal similarities. Half of them are corporeal while the other half are ghostly, Skoll has his lightning, Loque has his blue glow...if only there was a way to make individual distinct emotes, but sadly that's not the case.
Right now the only similarities they have are being quadrupedal, furry, and having teeth/claws. That's really as far as you can go, so basic actions have to be formed around those analogous traits.
Also, in the future who knows what other species will be added to the family? I'm fairly certain there will be new additions. If they add a wind serpent, or a spider, or anything that moves away from the mammalian archetype it will become even more convoluted and difficult. ><

Mmmm I know what you mean. I have been trying to think of my pets' personalities, and I think my Arashi would totally suit stuff like "crackling with excitement" and perhaps a howling emote, but Avalon is more of a chill dude. He's such a feel-good pet. I don't know, I'll try to think it over more, it's just really hard to focus on this WoW stuff when work keeps getting in the way.

Teigan wrote:Sure, Sara, I could write wolf-like and lightning based emotes for Skoll. But, this would leave others with a howling, stick fetching cat! Or, I could write mellow bear emotes for Arc....and have some very confused cats and wolves running around! That's just as bad as the original meowing, purring wolves and bears!

Well, that was what I was trying to say, though reading my post again now I realise that I worded it incredibly poorly... Anyway, that's why I'll try to think it over. It's just a pity that my awesome beasties are stuck just nudging me or biting a claw.

The only thing that I can come up with is perhaps spiritual or glowing eyes. I'm pretty sure they all have that, and regardless eyes are a very common feature to imbue otherworldly-ness upon or to emphasize such things.
Another possibility might be a resonance in the voice or roar of the creature to suggest a supernatural sort of trait.

Saturo's pet bends down, sniffs the ground and looks up at the stars, glowing with energy.

How about growling? Even the non-mammals should be able to get away with that.

Baring teeth? They've all had teeth so far, and "teeth" is a more neutral word than "fangs." They've all had tails so far, so maybe something involving them, though would have to avoid specific descriptions....especially since Arc's tail is teeny. Course, if we got something like a spirit crab, that would invalidate pretty much everything. -_- Sigh!
This is most definitely the most challenging family to develop for all of the afore-mentioned reasons.
EDIT: I *love* Saturo's use of the neutral "energy."
