Yeah I know who he is and etc but I still want the boss tag. This isn't a huge deal but for what it is... it's annoying. The amount of work needed to tame him was staggering and I feel at least existing tames should keep the tag in recognition of that... but I suppose that runs counter to the "everyone wins!" theme doesn't it.

It really would be worse if he'd be out of the game entirely. :/ Fear of that is actually what got me to tame him in the first place.
The only way that existing Beasts could keep the tag is if Blizzard decides to give the non-boss Beast a new id....and as we've seen thus far, Blizzard hasn't been doing that.
Perhaps someone should request that certain of the new models (SM hounds, for example, as well as The Beast) could get new ids. I've already got a couple of threads up at the moment and it would be better if others got their voices out there.

wait a minute... when you tame 'the beast', dismiss resummon, he dies, you die, etc whatever you can possibly think of to do with him; he keeps the skull boss tag in the portrait??? I never noticed....

Edited cause apparently I have the memory of a goldfish. (And edited again to add an apology to Darknez! Sorry!!!)
Thanks for remembering me Kalliope

Fair enough. I just posted it on the suggestions forum; anyone else who'd like existing tames to keep their boss tag post-cata is encouraged to go here and make themselves heard:

The only issue I have with Blizzard giving him a new NPC id in Cata is that it will make him a grandfathered pet. I'd rather they just leave it on him completely so that others can still get him in the future. I hate the idea of retired pets.

It wouldn't be the same as previous retired pets tough. I mean, ghost wolves for example. You could ONLY get that one mob, there were no other ghost wolves available. There are plenty of core hounds, tough.

Yes, it's not nearly to the same level as those sort of pets, but a Boss tag is nonetheless a very unique and fun thing to have, and I'm sure there would be plenty of hunters who would be sad to miss out.

'Did' implying that when Cata goes live he won't meaning that come 4.0.1 folks can still tame with the portrait OR... it'll be retroactive & those who had him prior to Cata will have that skull portrait removed regardless?

Well, this changes things.. I will likely go Kurken for my corehound, as I see it the least.

As I said before, my "The Beast", Loki, doesn't mind. He knows who he is. <3

Yes as soon as Cata hits his ?? Boss tag will be gone for any Beast pet with the same ID as the wild Beast.

Yes, it'd be cool, but he won't actually be a raid boss anymore, so it doesn't make sense, not really. :/

He's not a raid boss anymore so theres no point in being called a boss if you aren't one.

Don't try to tell HIM that, though.
And the thing is, the older Beasts really were raid bosses, hence the idea of the raid boss Beasts retaining the tag.

Rofl. I have no deathwish. *glances to the angry corehound* Eh...hehe....
But seriously though, Blizzard seems to be trying to make it fair to keep people from crying "NO FAIR! THEY HAVE A BOSS MOB AND I CANT HAVE ONE!".

Yup. I'd rather see them normalized than have a few select people with Boss pets that can no longer be obtained.

Tis a sad day when Blizz buckle to the childish cries... Not like BM is gonna be (hopefully at least) as bad as it was in LK.
