Actually wasps are usually fine. What isn't fine? Hornets usually. You will never meet something more agressive than a hornet. But what's worse than a Hornet?
Killer Bees or Africanised Bees. Same thing basically but the basic gist is you flee. You flee hard. You flee hard and you pray you can outrun them because these are horrible things.
Atleast wasps and hornets usually stop chasing you after a certain point. Killer Bees afaik don't.

Believe it or not:
Since the usage of pesticides decimated possible prey insects and the shortfall of nesting opportuninties, hornets are pretty rare in germany and protected by law!
You can't just go and destroy their nests and even relocating them needs permission of our nature conservation authority.
The article also said that hornets are pretty much not interested in humans and their food. So if you get stung by a hornet, that is pretty much because you made her angry by attacking or something.

The problem seems to be the wasp.
Many people try to blow on them to make them go away. Don't do that bause your breath contains a lot of CO2 and that makes them angry. Our local fire department (in germany, the number for calling ambulance and a fire truck is the same) had a tip on their website: Cut some lemons in half and press some cloves into the fruit. That smell is supposed to keep them off. Don't use perfume, hairspray or other sweet smelling stuff because in summer, when we sit out in the gardens enjoying weather, cake and BBQ is the time when they need a lot of food but can't find enough, so everything smelling sweet attracts them. And if they show up, just stay calm and cool, no attacking no jumping or running. They are more afraid of you then you are of them and , like you try to hit them, they try to sting you!
Show them your friendly side and they will do that too!
Note: no responsibility is taken for the correctness of this information!

I don't mind the big furry ones that much. It's the long legged skinny ones like the wipe your ass spider. That creeps me out.

Oddly enough, giant 8-inch tarantulas don't bother me in the slightest; in fact, I like them. I think there are very few insects/arachnids/etc. in this world that bother me. But the one thing that makes me squirm like a little girl are centipedes. They just have too many legs, and I can't tell which end is which, and they have those big spikey things jutting out everywhere, and they wiggle like a noodle when they move.......*shivers*
I've told myself I'm going to get a scolopendra polymorpha to make myself get over the phobia, but I still haven't done it. It would be a giant centipede living in my house. The little house centipedes are enough to send me scurrying. Why on earth would I want a 5-inch one??? X_x Oh lord, then some people have the giant scolopendra subspinipes mutlians, and...no way. No way whatsoever.

Haha, yes centipedes would definitely freak me out if I found a big one crawling on me. xD I'd totally have one as a pet, since then I'd know where it was. Most insects fascinate me and I love observing them so long as they don't surprise me somehow, but I can definitely understand being squeebly of those.
Actually, in general I really like bugs but I
hate having infestations or ones crawling around my house somewhere. Large quantities of tiny insects will freak me out.
I despise carpet beetles so much..their
gross little larva are the nastiest things to find living in some dark corner of your floor. My old house had them and they were just icky.
House centipedes freak me out too...my Mom had some in her old couch once. I was sleeping on it one night and one just sprinted out onto my pillow. *shudder* They move so fast too.

Thanks a lot, Rhyela. Now I won't be able to sleep!
*Grumbles.*
I HATE centipedes! They're unnatural! Begone, foul beast! Return to the deep caverns of depravity from whence you came forth!

Hee hee, I completely agree that the second picture of the centipede on the hand made me go 'aww' as well. xD

That's the s. polymorpha, the only one I've thought about getting. They stay quite a bit smaller than other centipedes and some of them even get this neat greenish-blue tinge to them. But still.....I can't quite get myself to make that leap and buy one.

If I got a pet Centipede, I would name him Legs. Get it? Too obvious? Yeah I thought so too...
It's funny how most people (including me) don't care for centipedes, and yet, most don't mind millipedes... survival instincts, who'da thunk.

I'd take a house centipede over cockroaches any day.
Also the facts about wasps are right, don't blow on them and don't have sweet smelling food out.
There is one wasp tho that isn't bad to be around, the Mud Dauber wasp, they have a mostly laid back/relaxed attitude and half the time they don't care if you're in the way. OH LO HAI I HAZ MUD *zing around head*. Hell we had one building a nest in our laundry room and she did not really care when we shuffled about or even turned the machines on- aslong as we stayed a foot or so away from her nest.
I can't stay calm around bees and wasps/hornets tho. I got stung to much as a child and I ALWAYS SPAZZ. ALWAYS.

My brother is the same way... but it's with every type of insect there is. I'm pretty sure I'm kinda responsible for SOME of it, but he has a phobia of anything insect like... well, in real life. Pictures, etc., not a problem. Ladybug on his shirt? JEEEZ US H. MADONNA CHRIST GET IT OFF GET IT OFFFFFFF AAAAAHHH GOD I'M GONNNAAA DIEEEEEE!!!1111oneoneoneeleveneleveneleveneleveneleven

So I'll just assume you don't want to see the colony of orange-spotted cockroaches I'm raising in my BEDROOM of all places (in a glass aquarium, of course)?

They're just tarantula food but I do have a soft spot for them. After watching them interact with one another and holding the big females, they grow on you a little.

Thank you Veph. I shall never forever have nightmares of that freaking Centipede. I've found them in my room... There are the only type of insects that I will not kill myself... I have to go running to my dad. >_> -shutters-
