Congrats! I too had to abandon my Ghostsaber when I came across King Krush or Skoll, cant remember, but yeah Darkshore I'm headed to as well to nab a Ghostsaber :)

Congrats though! I like to think that it was because of the youtube video I linked with Rob Schnieder that brought you the luck for your Hippopmenus.. Where'd you get that name anyways?

Loque is by far my favorite though, thats why he bears my son's name

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

I was alt-tabbed out one day at Arcturis' spawn and when I alt-tabbed back in Arcturis was there just strollong around... neither rare program went off til I mouse hovered over Arc....

Yes... I did have the background sound enabled. (You can hear the WoW sounds when you are alt-tabbed out)
Mine always go off. I've never had it not do it.

Grats on the tame Kalli!

I've actually experience the NPC Scan delay a couple times in the past, though the majority of the time it still goes off while minimized.

What's happened is that while minimized, if a rare showed up, even when I have sounds turned on in the background, I would go back into the game to see the pop-up there and then the sound alert blares at me, but the rare had already been there. It's as if the game 'cached' the noise alert until I went back in.

It's the 3D-renderer. If you minimize the game, it will "pause". What you do to prevent this, is don't minimize. Just click the game into window-mode and put it in the background without minimizing.

Oddly the previous had only happened a couple times. I've had countless other situations where it does go off and play the sound while minimized, so it's a bit random.

Oh? It ought to be pretty stable... You on Windows 7?

Mm hmm, Windows 7. I've experienced the delay only twice in all my time using NPCscan to hunt rares, but I do remember those occurrences.

Huh.. Then I don't really see why... Do you have several applications that use the same renderer up at the same time?

Nope, WoW's the only thing I have running when I'm playing it. Ah well, don't want to derail this thread further, so I'll chalk it up to mysterious random circumstances.

You divided it with zero. That's why!

You're probably right... I wouldn't want to derail ANOTHER thread...

Yay, storytime!

All of Kalliope's pets are Greek mythology themed. Atalanta is the name of the Greek princess who was abandoned by her father at birth on a mountaintop. A she-bear found the baby and raised her as one of her own cubs. After some high profile adventures (like fighting the Calydonian Boar and sailing with Jason as the only female Argonaut), she was reunited with her human family, but she retained her upbringing as a fierce huntress and had sworn an oath of virginity to the goddess of the hunt, Artemis. Her father wanted her to marry, but Atalanta was disinterested. She declared that she would only marry the suitor who could defeat her in a footrace. Many tried. Those who failed were beheaded. The youth Hippomenes (also known as Melanion) prayed to the goddess of love, Aphrodite, before challenging the princess. Aphrodite gave Hippomenes three golden apples to aid him in winning Atalanta's hand. During the race, every time Atalanta gained distance on him, Hippomenes threw a golden apple to the side. The princess retrieved the apples, either due to their shininess and value or the hidden desire to see Hippomenes win (depending on the account you read), falling behind and losing her hand in marriage to him. Stories differ on which deity they offended, but whether it was Zeus or Aphrodite, said deity turned the couple into a lion and lionness as punishment. At the time, the Greeks believed that lions could only mate with leopards, so they would not be able to remain together. (Needless to say, that part of the myth DEFINITELY didn't hold up.)

The huntress background is why my hunter was originally going to be named Atalanta, but the name was taken, so I ended up as Kalliope. My dream of a snow leopard pet (who became a ghost saber by the time she was actually tamed) named Atalanta ended up as a bit of a coincidence. The ghostiness of Arcturis led to Hippomenes's first form, but since he didn't click with Kalliope as a bear, he ended up changing form to a spirit leopard. The change suits him perfectly and I look forward to seeing him and Atalanta reunited in my stable. :) The leopard combination really works better than the ghost one. :D

Congrats Kalli! I don't have the perseverance to do that, I'm amazed. You really, really deserve having him back. <3

Isn't you not wanting to derail another thread like dividing with zero? O_O

i divide things by 0 all the time. I'm cool like that.

Kalli you're my new favorite person. I love greek mythology (i have Poseidon tatoo'd on my arm even, along with Thor (my 2 favorite Gods)) Thanks for the great storytime! You should post some screenshots too! I want to see you stuck in the tree!

I'm just so relieved that Hip took to being a kitty like a fish to water. Cause even though this was a retame of Hippomenes himself, he'd been Arcturis twice...never Loque before. After Orpheus made me wait four hours for him, I figured Hippomenes would be equally grumpy after I'd let him go. He came right home the first time, but this time, the journey was longer and more complex.

Woo fellow mythology fans! :D I'll see what I can do about pictures, now that I'm SLIGHTLY less jittery/dead on my feet...

All right, so because I was jittery and nervous at the time, I didn't actually take screenshots until this afternoon, so bear with me on the reenactments.

Image

This is basically all I saw as I drifted down the west side of the Basin. Oddly, I didn't get caught on any branches this afternoon. There was one particular tree north of the eastern gorilla spawn that I kept getting caught on too. It wasn't hugely exciting; just a kick in the ass to get moving again when I realized I had stopped.

Image

All too often while starting to cycle through the southern Krush path that links the southern Loque spawns, I'd hit this particular cliff wall.

Image

I would then grumble and pry myself loose, flying blindly forward until I usually hit this waterfall. I'd hear the water and tab back in, grumble again, then stagger off to the northeast, then the northern spawn.

Image

I got VERY twitchy as the hours rolled by, and this rock very often appeared to be alive and considerably lighter in color than it actually is. Never mind that NPCscan hadn't gone off; I got jumpy anyway. The goretalon matriarch herself gave me a few scares as well, but the rock at least was on the correct side of the area to effectively freak me out.

Image

I would generally smack into the cliff wall in the northwest corner after that. If I angled properly, I'd hit north of Loque's spawn, but there were a few times I had to cycle back north. This happened in other spots as well, but especially here. A couple of times, I angled too high and would have flown right out to sea if I wasn't tabbing in to check on things pretty much constantly. Depending on the height I flew south at, I'd either hit tree branches constantly, or I'd have to weave between tree trunks and such.

Image

This is sorta kinda the angle at which I ended up approaching Loque when he spawned. I was in fact tabbed in when it happened, but I heard NPCscan go off before anything else, so I didn't see if he spawned as I approached or if he'd spawned behind me, the little rascal. I WAS KIND OF OUT OF IT, OKAY? Was shaking so badly cause I'd JUST seen a level 79 blood elf mage at the spawn closest to Nesingwary killing pretty much everything in his path...and he didn't appear to be a botter. *twitchtwitch* Feeling so guilty that I didn't get to hug/pet/anything At before letting her loose for the day/night, but I know I'll find her in Darkshore tomorrow.

Image

:D

I'll come back to this spot with Atalanta when she's 80 again and take a pic of her too. :)
