So I'm trying to get Aotona. I only just found out about her a few days ago. And I have been wanting the Hyacinth Macaw for over 3 years, maybe 4. So when I saw this beauty, I knew I had to have her. And it's funny you guys saying she's a morning bird cuz I've been thinking I should log on around 3 or 4 am and start looking then. But my thought was cuz there'd be fewer people out there.

I got NPCScan and Overlay... but I'm not quite sure how NPCScan works. I deleted the creature file it mentioned on the addon page, but I'm still worried it won't go off. I'm afraid I'll miss her.

Also, some people have talked about picking one spot and staying there. How does her spawn work? Does she spawn in one of the 5 areas and just flap in one spot? Does she fly all around that one spawn area? Or does she spawn in one area for X amount of time, then spawn in one of the other 5 areas for X amount of time, and so forth? It just seems to me that unless she "teleports" between the 5 areas every so many seconds/minutes, then what's the sense of staying in only one place? Cuz if she only spawns once every 6-10 hours (speculatively), and you're only staying in one place... what if she spawns in another area? She'll be over there until she's killed or tamed by someone else, then you have to wait another 6-10 hours or more before she spawns again then she could spawn in one of the OTHER 4 areas you're not camping. Right? Or am I getting something wrong?

How do you guys go about camping for her?

To check to ensure you cleared, just use /npcscan cache
If she isnt listed, then shes not cached and it WILL go off (and scare the daylights out of you).

She doesnt teleport anywhere. She'll spawn in one of the 5 areas and flap about in those areas. She doesn't despawn either. I camped one place and every 15 - 30 minutes, I did a round in all her areas then went back to parking it. It's a guessing game. You dont have to park it I'd get dizzy flying around constantly.

What I did was usually camp in one spot and read/do other stuff. Ever 5-15 minutes, I'd go do a patrol of her spawn points and grab herbs then park again.

Is there one spawn point/area with a higher percentage of spawn than others? Just wondering. I'm currently camping the area for Aotona, which I've never seen in SB (only as another hunter's pet). Oh, and I'm on Mok'Nathal - if there are any other Mok hunters out there.

You can also hear the sound if you open up the addon's page in-game. There's a test button somewhere (it's been a while). I'd push it once or twice just to listen to the sound and know what you're looking for. I know the first time NPCscan legitimately went off for me, I still had no idea WTF was going on, I thought an event or something was happening in the area XD

Good luck! I hope everyone catches their Aotona. She is a magnificent bird and definitely one of my Hunter's buddies for life.

I'm leveling mine today. I've neglected her. I'm tempted to rename Aotona to Azuremyst.

I got her, I got her! This morning at 6-something am! Wewt! Now I have to decide on a great name for her. This is gonna take some time. Hrm....

Think I'm gonna either name her Isiphae or Denea, though I'm still considering Baket (or Bakhet) or Erate. I was going for something that sounds kinda Goddess-ish.

Ooh how did I miss this? Congratulations. And those're nice names! Anahita is one goddess name I like.

Aww, thank you so much! =) There are some new rares I'd like to grab too. Was thinking about Terrorpene but I dunno. Would LOVE to have the lion though! I need to look through the other Cataclysm rarities and see what clicks with me. My very first Cata tame was a red fox, though. I -love- foxes! If I were in fantasy or renaissance periods, a vixen, curled up with her fluffy tail laying across her nose, would be my sigil. I'm kinda sneaky and resourceful and wily. Not really sleek and beautiful on the outside, but I'm shiny on the inside. *giggle*

Nothing wrong with that at all! The red foxes are awesome and very cute. I grabbed a black one though. Jadefang so far is the only Cata rare that really clicks for me so far and I'm waiting for the right daily (Not a night elf, not an engineer...) for her.

HAH! Now my turn to pay it forward. While herbing in the Basin, Aotona popped. I got a friend to come over and tame her. I'll upload screenies shortly.

i finaly caught my pretty polly lastnight just need to farm the mini Hycanth Macaw

i found my bird around 3 am my time "6 server"
had been looking for a week or so. seen it once dead and a false alarm from a hunters pet
then one night i was flying in on the FP and npcscan went off i looked down and there it was
i freaked out because i was still flying and it took me a min to get to her
but she was still up i caught her and named her Videl
on a side note i caught Loqu a few days before so all i needed was King Krush
so after i was done with Aotona i said im going to bed but ill look for krush real fast
went to the north spot first then flew west and down the side hit the wasp spot and
npcscan went off again and there was krush walking right at me.
after i got my jaw off the floor
"i had camped him for a month on a dif hunter and had never seen it so i thought i would never find it"
i flew down hit tame and got feared as soon as it hit me
i darn near had a heart attack my heart was going so fast
as soon as fear was up i hit tame again...and this time it stuck
so caught Aotona and King Krush in about 15 mins apart.
needless to say i fell asleep with a smile on my face

just wanted to share my story about this epic night and it does help other hunters in the fact that yes these rares can be up at the same time
so happy hunting guys and girls

I can confirm that based on my experience today, Loque, Kresh, and Aotona share a 6 hour timer. I tamed Loque at 2:20 PM, accidently killed Kresh at 8:25 PM because I went eltardo and had my core hound out >< , and then tamed Aotona 15 minutes ago at 2:15 AM.

Now to come up with names for Loque and Aotona.

I'm on Bloodscalp, if anyone else wants to work with the timer I've got going.
