Fire wolf -> Frostfire Ridge
Shadow wolf -> Shadowmoon Valey
That's my theory

As for the "shadow" beasts and mounts, they may come from Shadowmoon Valey, too.

It's been so long since I read what I wrote in the OP that I
completely forgot that I had noted a bunch of spells/references for both void wolves and cinder wolves:
http://wowhead.com/spells?filter=na=voi ... rs=6;crv=0
http://wowhead.com/spells?filter=na=%22 ... rs=6;crv=0
So at least now we know what manner of creatures they're likely referring to! I'll move their references up to the wolf / spirit beast section.

Just leaving this here...
(Also, apologies for the creepy tauren. I tried to base him on my live one, who looks like a big, cute, white teddy bear. But this guy kinda looks like he'd make suits out of people he skins :S )

I personally don't think he looks too bad!
Also, could you show off the Ravager? And any other pet you might find?

Now THIS is interesting. I went to test out Vorsha the Lasher, the purple hydra that is a Horde quest spawn (so you don't need to wait for the rare in the Barrens

). Not only did I tame her, but it also considered the quest completed as she was defeated. Is this kind of mechanic new, or are there other quests where you can tame and still have the quest complete?

I haven't heard of that working before. Could be because the quest is not scripted/designed to deal with the concept of someone taming the quest mob.

Yeah, it was just the awful, washed-out, effect of the lighting in that zone that made him look so creepy

Though I still feel he's a little rubber-faced. There's something about the face of new tauren males that reminds me of new gnome males. Something a bit... hard to say, except maybe like those people who suffer from the condition where their facial nerves don't work. Maybe when they animate the faces more that will go away.

Currently concentrating on old hydras to update the list on what is tameable, but here's one of the ravager:
As you can see, I'm in BFD on my way to check out Aku'mai. However the dungeon has changed, and there are new NPCs in here, so I may be a little while checking it out. So far just one noticed an orange shale spider, but it's not tameable.

Looks good, Wain! I like how it looks, even if it's not my favorite coloration, and it still has the old, outdated skeleton.
And yeah, I saw/heard something about a BFD update. I would like it if you were to keep us updated on that.
Could you also take a few screenshots of battle pets in the pet journal? There should be some battle pets in the journal that might have their model there. Could you check..
Grovestrider Hatchling - Drop from Draenor
Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar - Engineering crafted
Iron Starlette - Engineering crafted
Mechanical Scorpid - Engineering crafted
Mechanical Toucan - Engineering crafted
Carrotus Maximus - World drop from Valley of the Four Winds (this is likely inaccurate and will probably be updated)
Lil' Leftovers - Cooking crafted
Weebomination - Unknown drop
Albino Chimaeraling - Looted from an egg from Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor)
Royal Peacock - Achievement reward (Draenor Pet Master)
Evil Widowling
and Hogs?

Yeah, I will some other evening but I'm quickly running out of time tonight and have other objectives. Also, perhaps better to start a minipets thread for that kind of thing.

OK this is HILARIOUS.
Ghamoo-Ra, who was our only source of the "ancient turtle" skin, is being mutated by Twilight guys as you watch.
He now uses that slightly odd, green-black dragon turtle skin that we noticed in the database in MoP but the textures point the wrong way to all the in-game ones and and don't quite match the model. We kind of assumed it was for an earlier, discontinued version of the dragon turtle:
He is NOT tameable.
But don't despair over the loss of the old skin. What's that in the corner behind him?
Pahboo-Ra, Son of Ghamoo-Ra IS tameable

Checked Wowhead for new npcs, found this:
http://wod.wowhead.com/npc=77157#.
Its a tameable serpent with the python model.

Haha, that's cool, Wain. Also, Keilden. I hope that remains. There is no good reason not to make those serpents tameable, and they would make a lot of snake fans really happy!

Aku'mai is now a disembodied, purple, Megaera-style head, and so won't be tameable.

What happens if you've got Ghamoo'ra tamed on the live version? Does he get transformed in this new (apparantly exclusive) skin?
If I recall correctly that's how the silithids changes after the cataclysm worked.

I hope they put some non-elite hydra mobs with the same skin there, walking around the dungeon.
I can assure you that the first two aren't supposed to be tameable. One is mechanical, so that one is right out. It also has a placeholder model. And there is no family for the frogs to go into, and they certainly don't fit with turtles, so that seems like a mislabeled mob.
For the two of those, you can hope that it will be like the case in WoTLK with the ghost pets, and that it'll slip by Blizzard's attention. I doubt it, though. Personally, I would love a frog/toad, but I wouldn't get my hopes up until they make a new family for it.
For the Armored Wolf.. that's a 50/50. Frankly, Blizzard's position on armoured pets is sketchy. In some cases, it's okay (Hellfire Wolves, Raptors in MoP, Razorfen Boars), and in others, it's not. It could be that they're okay with it, which would be really cool, but again.. don't get your hopes up.

I didn't spot any other hydras in the dungeon. Unless they're summons and I killed something too fast.
But the grey skin is still used on Bittertide Hydras in Shol. So it's no loss. Kind of nice the purple Megaera head is finally used

Yeah. Perhaps they could be working in a new hydra type that used the body of the Thunderhydra pets, and the heads of Megaera. Small chance, but possible. And the reason why I would like to see some non-elite mobs is because it's still another skin low levels will be able to get that way. But oh well!
Also, there are actually.. multiple Aku'mai..
