I think you can buy wax at the store.

@Novi - Switch to tea (or coffee). Even if you sugar your coffee/tea, you're using a fraction of what's in a soda, and still getting some caffeine. Plus it's cheaper! But there's some fabulous teas out there; check locally but I can point you at some great places online if you're interested.

Coming up to the end of the final year, all we're being told is that communication is key, you have to be a social person and, basically, you have to have a lot of friends to get into the industry. Lol yeah I'm never, ever getting into the industry if that's the case. I basically got left out because I don't like to go to pubs and drink. I hate that kind of environment. That and, "Go to Animex. If you don't, you lose a huge chance at a successful industry placement." Well I would. If you didn't charge your own students £70 to go to the damn thing every single year. I could only afford that the first year, there's no way in hell I can afford it now. So... basically, I'm screwed because I don't have a lot of money or friends. Thanks uni.
Fuck the game industry anyway. Everyone who's worth getting into it is one of the 'popular' kids who are just good at everything they do without even trying. "Lol I did this last minute" AND IT'S A FUCKING MASTERPIECE. It's like being back at school again. I really, really hate uni. Suppose I'm just going to have to go after a mediocre job. Good. I can't be fucked with the industry anymore.

Well....they're maybe half right, Snowy. Communication is key, yes, but you don't need a lot of friends to get into the game industry. It helps, but it's not a must. It does help to reach out and such.

The Game industry is like the Animation one it's so small that having good connections and social skills are important. Everyone knows everyone so being nice and friendly helps a lot.

Yeah, I have DavidsTea and stuff. It's just dealing with the cravings and all that.
... also, for networking, I am finding setting up a good LinkedIn helps. I've been reading What Color is your Parachute? 2015 and it's been pretty good for jerb hunting. I'm terribly anxious/shy, so networking is tough. But man, I hope it pays off.

Also, filing taxes now that Turbo Tax shut down is making me twitchy. And giving me a tension headache. My university doesn't provide 1098-Ts, either. hooray.
If you do go the LinkedIn route, be sure to set it up fully and join a few groups. Don't spam your brains out, but looking reasonably active is good.

I've never gotten bupkis out of LInkedIn personally, except for some back-patting from friends and me being able to keep tabs on my co-graduates...
The only thing I've gotten out of it is some schadenfreude over the fact that none of them have jobs in the art/design/web design industry either. They're all just freelance flopping along, or there's one gal that went and got certified as a medical assistant.

@Novi Turbo Tax got shut down because they got hacked....again....and peoples information got leaked.
@cow LinkedIn is very good. Even for web developers, people are looking for you there.

In this age of a brazillion job hunters per jerb, it's best to give yourself every edge you can. Don't give yourself grey hairs and heart attacks, but it really doesn't hurt to have a nicely set up linked in.
And yeah, wonder why Turbo Tax keeps sending me stuff to file my taxes, then.

I think everyone kind of missed the point of my rant. I don't want to work in the industry now. I would rather do ANYTHING else but work there. Any and all inspiration I may have once had for it is now completely dead, the game industry is a mess, being female is still a problem, I'm an anxious person so it just won't work out anyway. I have massive amounts of respect for artists, as an example, who work in the game industry, tirelessly working to make a game as beautiful as possible, that in itself is inspiring but... it's just not me. I'm done working with people now, honestly, I just want to work with animals. I would rather be a volunteer at a cattery than make good money in the game industry, which wouldn't damn happen anyway because there's too much competition and too many good people. And I'm not even close to being 'one of the good people'.

Ah, well. That's always a bit rough and I hope your new career path works out. But even still, it might be wise to go with a LinkedIn and emphasize skills that would transfer over well to working with animals. I know I'm going from IT to Marine biology and that's one heck of a leap. Definitely more fish...
