You find one in the Iron marches, a lvl 50-60 zone. I found ONE north of Ebbing Heart run and it was surounded by lvl 59 mobs.
Also thing is TINY so i dident actually see it. Just saw the Charm option appear. I was only lvl 52 so..i had no time to stop and see if there was more.

ER. MAH. GERD. MUST HAVE THAT HAWK!!!
*ahem* Anyway, I'm confused - do you still need to tame each "color" or individual species of a particular pet family? Or, once you tame one, you have access to all? I guess I haven't played with it enough, but stuff I read makes it sound like once you have the family unlocked, you can just swap out the species at will even if you haven't actually charmed them. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.
All my ranger has right now is his starting bear. There was a river drake or some such early on, but it just looked like a toad to me so I didn't get it. I was hoping for another color. I'm wondering if I tame the ugly one, will I automatically get to somehow select a red one instead even if I never physically tamed it?
Another thing that I'm probably mis-reading is that once you tame a species, you can't tame any more? So like, if I grab a white wolf, I can't also have a brown wolf and a dog, too? Do I have to pick just one and that's it?
Sorry to be a noob. XD

You have to tame each colour in order to unlock that specific skin.

You can own every colour of every model in the game (well, perhaps excluding the specialty skins you can only get with GW1 stuff or something). Think of the pet page like a stable, only instead of being limited it actually has every single pet inside it. Once you tame one it's yours forever (you can't abandon it). So it's like a grid checklist to fill out really. They start off greyed out, but once you find one in the wild and charm it, you have it forever. And yes, you can have all of the skins in one family and swap out between them at your will once you've charmed them.
EDIT: If it helps, think of them like the minipets page in WoW. You learn a minipet once and you have it in your book forever to call out when you want.

Ah, sweet! I was hoping it was something like that. I probably won't go and tame every single thing just to have it, just the stuff I want. I was just worried about locking myself out of other things. Ah, to be a noob again. XD
Thanks Veph! ^_^

That's a really cool system! I kinda wish WoW had something like that, but... it would take FOREVER to tame all the possible tameable skins in WoW. xD
I never got around to playing GW2 because my old PC sucked and by the time I got my new one I had already moved into uni accommodation, and the campus network doesn't let you play GW2.

Posting so that it's easier for me to find this thread when I want to check out the pet options again.
