Amending this to note that I know people who did earn bear mounts too,but who don't actually have them due to losing the rolls. So even that example is open for debate.
And I'll amend for all those who have bear mounts but got them by buying the mount runs. So I really don't see a problem with Blizz selling bear mounts, if guilds were doing the same back in the day.

Ooh, that's a nice gun. Where's it from? Removed or something that you post it here?
That...
Is the BRK-1000, from the super-duper-heroic mode of ToC 25, that was taken out of the game far too soon. Yes, the model exists for one other gun, but it doesn't have the same coloring. I would spend a lot for a BRK1000.

Yeah, people have been 'buying' rare mounts since they got introduced. If it's a guarantee drop like the Alliance Steed/Horde Worg, or Sarth drakes were, guilds with the instance on farm would just charge people who 'didn't deserve' them a crapton of gold to carry them through, and even if it's a rare drop, the loot tradition of 'DKP' meant that even if it dropped, the mount still got 'bought' by whoever had 'the most money' or else just handed off to the RL's girlfriend or something.
Most fancy mounts people have in game, except the achievement mounts (which so far have not been included in the BMAH, nor do I think they will be), have some element of 'buying' already intrinsic in them. All this means is that the gold sunk into them will go back into the ether instead of filling the coffers of some prog raid guild or TCG card farmer.

Eh, my guild had Sarth on farm for a very long time, and we used DKP for standard looting, but we didn't use it for the mount. Each member in the raid without the mount would do a /roll, and the highest roll won, as simple and non-buying as possible.

Yes, but that's the exception rather than the rule. Most of the raid guilds I knew, the mount was automatically kept by the RL, and then if it was seen again, it was given to someone they favored or else bought with DKP.
And I remember LOTS of yells in trade about 'buying' a bear run. What sucked was, generally if you 'bought' a bear run and something happened and it didn't get completed? Too bad, so sad, you were still out that 25000g or whatever the group had charged. Kind of unethical, but what can you do.
