May have been a misunderstanding when I said "cost over a million." To clarify, the last artifact trait costs over a million artifact power.
Figured as much. But yes, it will take a few months or so to get a fulled upgraded Artifact.

Well I suppose it's their way of keeping us busy then.

Honestly, I won't mind that. The same reason unlike many I don't mind reputations, even lots of them, as long as they aren't grind fests. (Which I'm still worried about, speaking of... the lack of reputations and mount rewards.) As boring as they may seem at times it does keep me interested and busy, which is better than having nothing to do but raid.

The Reps in Legion are a lot better. Unlike WoD, which was mostly just grind fests, the Legion reps have World Quests that can give tons of rep (1.5k for some)

How does artifact power for a second spec work? I've not done that part in the beta. My main uses two specs, tank and dps. Should I save all my artifact power items I get from killing rares? Should I dump all of into one spec as soon as I get them?

You'll be able to put research into gaining additional Artifact Power from items, which will help off spec artifacts catchup.

One of our raiders found a spreadsheet that lets you see how long it'll take you to get artifact power and ranks and such based on your activities; I'm gonna just copy his post wholesale cos I'm lazy tho lol

Artifact Power Spreadsheet. Of course, there's plenty of time for these numbers to change, but it does look like it's being actively updated (and developed).
NOTE: The default template is expecting you to spend 8 hours a day playing and that doesn't even account for the time to level and do non-daily quests (though it counts the AP from them). So, it's a pretty good idea to change those numbers if you're looking 3 weeks into the future (when raids open).
If you just...complete all non-daily quests (that give AP), you'll have 18 traits when raids open (and enough leftover for an offspec weapon with 13 traits).
If you also...keep up with daily quests that give AP: 19 traits (offspec 14)
and...
do one heroic dungeon each day: 20 traits (offspec 2)
and...
a) spam heroic dungeons for 2 hours/day: 20 traits (offspec 14)
b) spam heroic dungeons 6 hours/day: 21 traits (offspec 16).
c) spam heroic dungeons 22 hours/day: 24 traits (offspec 16, offoffspec 13).
I'll admit it. I'm starting to get a little pumped for Legion.

Hmmm....sounds like they're giving some good incentives to raid/dungeon

I like that.
