Another really helpful thread! Thank you.

A fun place to chat about hunter pets in the World of Warcraft.

Swinging back in, because I hadn't noticed this post earlier. I did some investigative reporting (aka, running around naked and punching things). The Carrion Scarabs are spawned by a nerubian type mob named Crypt Horror (there are also Crypt Slayers, Crypt Walkers, and Crypt Stalkers in the tunnel). It's a very simple "Summon Carrion Scarab" spell the mob does. These mobs do exist in beta, though their levels have been lowered.Worba wrote:EDIT: Oh hey, on the EPL tunnels, I'm pretty sure the red beetles are spawned in some way (they are lvl 57-58 according to wowhead http://www.wowhead.com/npc=10699) - either directly summoned by the nerubeans or else they implant them in you and then they erm... hatch and start attack you?Been a while but I'm pretty sure about having fought them a while back.
Thanks for going back and checking that, ummeiko... looks like the only way I'll have a red beetle is if I'm willing to put up with the lvl 84 color changers... boooo.ummeiko wrote:Swinging back in, because I hadn't noticed this post earlier. UNFORTUNATELY, the scarabs they summon are now classified as undead instead of beasts.
They're now classified as Beasts! And set as tameable! However when you try it says they're already controlled!! Ah well, at least it looks like they intend for these to become tameable red scarabs. They just aren't quite there yet.
I believe that even if you control the "summoner" or what-have-you first, it will still tell you it's being controlled by another creature. I tried to tame an owl last night on live and even though I killed its master first, it still told me it was under control by another creature.Worba wrote: NICE.
Sounds like they listened to my post on suggestions forum!
What happens if you kill their summoner first and then try taming the beetle? Any difference?
Yeah, I recall something like that with the red hyenas in wpl too... but figured it was worth a try at least, since this unit obviously is in a state of flux.Rhyela wrote:I believe that even if you control the "summoner" or what-have-you first, it will still tell you it's being controlled by another creature. Still broken in this build (13221). The Angered Arakkoa Protector in BEM is still untameable for the same reason.Wain wrote:They're now classified as Beasts! And set as tameable! Since this happened shortly after the summoned white worm was made tamable (e.g. another case of an otherwise unobtainable* pet being made available as a summoned guardian), I'm holding out for the idea that this was done by design, but that they didn't bother to fully test it because they were in a rush. The Insect Man wrote:I have a theory that Blizzard is sufficiently pushed for time that they're basically mass-tameable-ing mobs with particular models, hence most of the beetles became tameable all at once, and then they sorted out the problems later (c.f. the Dire Maul Carrion Swarmers and their shape change). Hence just cos it was made tameable doesn't mean it was intended to be tameable, it may just have got caught in the net. (But here's hoping).
I'll be here quietly gnawing on the edge of my desk in the meantime...Irie wrote:There are Lava Beetles in Bastion of Twilight raid instance with that red skin. I'll have a look later and see if they're tameable.
Hmm just noticed Bastion is a raid? If so, then you might as well bring a healer along if you're going to have to get an extra just to get inside?Irie wrote:That won't work as they are too far to send pet on them, it does look possible with a drop down then proc some godlike haste to get the tame time shortened before you snuff it in the lava, or bring a healer but that's cheating. Solo tame or nothing.
