So I'll just assume you don't want to see the colony of orange-spotted cockroaches I'm raising in my BEDROOM of all places (in a glass aquarium, of course)?

They're just tarantula food but I do have a soft spot for them. After watching them interact with one another and holding the big females, they grow on you a little.

Cockroaches under glass is one thing.
The infestation we're trying to deal with? Another.
that and they're like 2-3 inches big full grown and just ug nasty

I know I'm a little late to the conversation here, but I thought I'd give a little friendly information about the jumping spider mating dances as there was recently a program on in which they were mentioned, and I thought some of you might enjoy the info.
The male jumping spiders do a little song and dance routine for the females when they notice them. The dancing is the most obvious part (moving back and forth and moving those front two legs around in the air), but the "song" part is actually vibrations they make on the surface they're on at the time. Since they have no way of making vocal noises, male jumpers tap the surface with their legs and abdomen to produce patterns of vibrations for the female to feel. The more complicated and coordinated the movement and tapping are, the more likely the female is to like them.
They need to be careful, however, because if the female decides she doesn't like him, she may also decide to make a meal of him.
As for me, I love spiders, especially the little ones like jumpers. While I'm not fond of centipedes, I usually leave them be or "rescue" them also. Why? Centipedes subsist on a diet similar to that of spiders: smaller insects and pests around your house. If you don't want them crawling around your house, why not take them outside where they can eat pests without bugging you (or, if you have a colony of silverfish living in your house... you know).

I love the PEW! one. We get those spiders around here all the time, I think they're so cool. What's funny about the guy sleeping on the pillow with the (what looks like a) tarantula, is that it probably would just sit there all day; not lunge at his face, bite his jugular, or implant eggs in his ears. It'd just sit there in its happy little place and chill until someone bothered it. That's why I love tarantulas. They only look intimidating but they're really just big cuddly balls of boredom. :3

That's why I want a tarantula as a pet, but my mother hates spiders.

Holy cats those are awesome! I totally loled.
The PEW one is hilarious.
It's funny because I am not a complete arachnophobe and I love big spiders. But little ones like the little jumping spiders freak me out. The reason, you don't see em comin!! Some big ol tarantula you'll see. But the little sneaky hidey ones. Those you don't see.

Had to share this

I was taking a nap on the floor yesterday and a tickle on my forehead woke me up. It was a little old house spider striding across my hair! I brushed it off and chased it to the corner so Hun wouldn't see it and kill it. Hes the kinda of person that would be fine till he sees a bug. If hes talking or doing something and sees a bug, he immediately stops to go squish it

That must be awkward at times...

That spider is so cute, especially with those big bug/puppy eyes. I am completely fearless of spiders (heck, I own a spider in WoW). Is that guy really small? I thought he was bigger than that.

Well i love spiders and tarantulas. I actually collect tarantulas as a hobby and so far have a collection of 55. I only collect new world tarantulas. I use the scientific names of tarantulas as my character names in WoW too as some sound really cool and non taken (unless you on a german server).
I find spiders and tarantulas fascinating creatures, I mean just the way hey shed there skins intact is one fascinating thing about them.

Oh my God. Permission to SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE <3<3<3 These are amazingly adorable!
I adore spiders, especially the furry, fat-bellied ones. =) My mother and I were pondering for a while to get a tarantula as a pet, but, the black sheep we like to call my brother (I kid, we love him dearly) has mild arachnophobia, so it would be difficult to give ickle Trevor (my imaginary name for my spider...I can dream

) a hug with my brother in the foetal position in the corner.

Rhyela wrote:Oddly enough, giant 8-inch tarantulas don't bother me in the slightest; in fact, I like them. I think there are very few insects/arachnids/etc. in this world that bother me. But the one thing that makes me squirm like a little girl are centipedes. They just have too many legs, and I can't tell which end is which, and they have those big spikey things jutting out everywhere, and they wiggle like a noodle when they move.......*shivers*
I've told myself I'm going to get a scolopendra polymorpha to make myself get over the phobia, but I still haven't done it. It would be a giant centipede living in my house. The little house centipedes are enough to send me scurrying. Why on earth would I want a 5-inch one??? X_x Oh lord, then some people have the giant scolopendra subspinipes mutlians, and...no way. No way whatsoever.
Oh god.... I HATE CENTIPEDES!!!
Spiders, I'm fine with (and the lolspiders are so cute) but I just hate centipedes!!! Guh, I'm fine with milipedes (spelling? >.<) even - but centipedes???? NO TY NOT 4 ME.... *shivers*

Having that tarantula on that girl's face could actually be rather dangerous. Looks like a g.rosea in the picture, which have urticating hairs. If that thing gets startled or feels threatened for any reason, and it flicks those hairs, they could go up her nose/in her eyes/etc. They're incredibly irritating, even on the skin's surface, I shudder to think how it'd feel to have a cloud of those things in my nose or mouth or eyes.
So it's not a fear thing (as I love holding tarantulas), it's just that that's pretty dangerous. X_x

The assistant let it do that. She woudn't let the girl have it on her face if she thought it would hurt her.
