I tried the Death-Tame method on these puppies for hours, hoping I could get a permanent tamed Ghost Wolf...
I can confirm after 4-5 hours and 3 death tames later (full despawn, doesnt show portrait in call wolf), that they dont death tame with the buff on them. Sucks :S
So I just did the abandon method :(

Death-Tame method works have tamed it on 3 hunters yes i have 3 hunters o_O , key is hit it down to 20% health untill it Enrages then just tame and have some one kill at end and you hit revive pet you can see if it works before you log out pet doesnt die it despawns before it dies its all very close but have done it many times.

So can you clarify Acherontia? You attempted to tame the Ghost Wolf Runner and as you tamed him you DC'd?

I tamed the ghost wolf today on one of my hunters with the death-at-tame strategy hunter2011 explained in an other thread. I want to add, it only worked with the Ghostpaw runners for me, not with the other Ghostpaw wolfes in Ashenvale (Alpha and howler). He disappeared after the tame (I hit revive pet when my rogue friend killed him), I logged out, he was a white wolf at my login screen, I logg back in, rezz him and he's a pretty ghost wolf. He still appears as his white self when logging out. I haven't tried what happens when he dies, but I think the ghost-look will disappear. I'll try to verify it if I should tame an other one to test it. I'll post screenshots tomorrow if you want :)

editing to avoid double post from here on:

I just logged back in to take the screenshots:
Nerdanel with Tenga:

This is how Tenga shows in the stables (and the login screen)

And this shows Tenga's "buff" when clicking on her. She has no additional abilities and acts like any normal wolf (talents are ofc the same, too)

Okay can someone explain this in more depth please? I have tried over many months now and used the pet-abandon macro several times and every time I try (spamming it, using it once at the end, est.) and NOTHING has worked; the most successful way I have done is the tame on death method which does not work with the Ghostpaw Runners (Which I have aimed for) can someone please explain this to me? If you want send me a real id request:

Put in the message you are from Wow-Petopia.com and are looking to help me.

Death tame method does work , always use melee to kill the pet never a caster

And i beleave the pet-abandon macro hasn't worked in a long time so no point trying with it.

@Lazurianis: I'll explain here, so everyone can read it.

I stripped my level 85 toon completely naked (even rings, trinkets, etc). Then I went out with my rogue friend to find the runners in western Ashenvale. I went to a runner and hit him with my fists down to about 30% life (was 2-3 hits) then I started taming, my friend killed the mob exactly when the tame finished and I pressed "revive pet" the same instant. Then the pet disappeared. If the pet falls dead to the ground and makes the "ding-animation" there, your friend is perfectly on time, but you hit revive too late. If the pet dies, he's to early. We tried the same thing with the other ghostpaws, but it didn't work for me. With the Ghostpaw runners, it worked with the third one. He disappeared when my friend killed and I hit revive. I wanted to call him, but had only four pets shown. I logg out and see a mini-white wolf standing next to my toon (the size they have on their level). I logg back in, call, "your pet is dead" I revive him and have a pretty blue wolf, who had the "enrage" buff for 40 seconds left. So he was big blue-reddish, but this faded. Now she (mine is a girl) looks like the spirit beast and has the same size. When logging out or putting her in the stables she appears as her white form (see screenshots above).
Good luck in taming this special beauty!!

the tip hunter2011 gave me: use a melee to kill the pet (I tried with a hunter for the oil stained wolf, and the sparkling tallstrider it never worked).

congrats on your pet Bahamas. Looks great with your orc!

One small note: I went dungeon today with Tenga and our group wiped in Blackrock, I called my pet (it didn't die!!!) but the buff is gone and she's back to white wolf. So avoid wipes, or prepare yourself to tame it again and again and again. I have to go out this evening and get her back....

Several of the appearance buff pets like this ghost wolf DO LOSE THE BUFF ON DEATH. This is heavily covered in several threads.

Just like in this one:

How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs

@Finduilas

I have tried the Tame-On-Death Method exactly to your description, I have my friends in vent with me at the time, the Ghost Wolf is with the buff, and it is ALWAYS timed right but I can never get it to work. I even tried the Pet-Abandon Macro and that didnt work (Despite it was Hotfixxed I resorted to that) so I will try again, xD Thanks again

Awww huge congrats!

@zedxrgal: I know that the buffs disappear on death of the pet, but mine didn't die, but me. I never knew that the death of the owner affected the buff as well.

edit: checked the thread you posted. I never read it before  - so have to tame my Tenga again and avoid wipes in the future.

PS: anyway tame her again, to have in the stable

Yes :) I'll use her in guildruns (we don't wipe!) and for a show-off pet. And the tame isn't that hard, so I can get her again, if she should die again.
