Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for all the work on this macro-method... was able to finally tame Lone Hunter after several hours of the other method.
I'm probably not the first one to name this unique wolf Excalibur!

Wait, why are people trying to hit him?
he aggros you anyway, no?
I just walked up to him and he jumped up and started attacking me.
I started taming, and then spammed my macro near the end of the tame.
Still has ghost-look, still has pointy sharp ouchy thing stuck in head (and his name is ClumsyPuppy).
I had WAY more trouble with the ghostpaws in Ashenvale.. they just wouldn't turn ghostly until a bit of damage was cause, and even looking at 'em sideways, I'd one-shot them with my 80.
I ended up following one around until it started attacking an elk (or whatever those are), and soon as it ghosted, I killed the elk, and tamed the woof.
It's such a crying shame that he loses that ghost look when he dies.

Sukurachi, because some of us tamed that wolf a day before Acherontia found out you could use that macro. So we had to do damage to it so it would die at the same time as the tame was finished. Took me also almost an hour to get it right. Went to bed, Next day Acherontia announced a new method. Could have saved me some time xD

have a couple of questions. when u guys log out and see him on the screen.does he have the sword.
tried a couple of time which seems to be ok but after i log back in call pet/revive pet. he comes back alive nomal without the sword
also wouldnt the abandon pet macro just abandon him if u tame him the proper way.

I just have to say, that is a terrific and amazingly perfect name for him!

Although pretty ironic that the
last thing you want to do is dislodge the sword!

I knew I shouldn't have looked this up, now I've been trying to get this silly dog for an hour and no luck, trying both methods and coming within miliseconds to taming him. Such a bother to have these beast glitched pets
No raid tonight tho, so I shall have me a new pet (hopefully) before next raid!

Yep, you have the right idea; keep trying til you give up - and then keep on trying anyways because you're stubborn and determined to have a result to show for all this effort you've put into this so far. I don't know if this or camping a popular rare is more maddening, come to think of it...

Can someone please make a guide on how to do these type of tames, I'm REALLY interested in getting the oil-stained wolf/bird and any other beastly looking pet with a shiny debuff. Thanks in advance!

From reading that post it sounds like letting the pet die will cause the appearance "buff" to go away. For instance if you tame the wolf with the sword in his noggin, letting him die then rezing him will cause the sword to be gone, is that correct?

I just successfully tamed The Lone Hunter + swordface, and Consumed Thistlebear + Pink Glow :] Thanks to my mage friend Verglas on TLH

No. it SKIPS the cleaning process, its not a cleaning process itself, but grats on your tame

Congrats, and greetings back! I minored in German, my father's grandparents immigrated over to the states from Germany (not sure exactly where). I have always wanted to go there but have not yet had the opportunity to do so.
Hope you are having fun with the puppy!

Still having problems with this tame, I managed to get the oil stained wolf and the ghost wolf with no problems at all, ghost wolf weeks ago and the oil stained months before Cata launch, but I can't do it for the lone hunter. Just going to call a quits on this, time to find a new pet to camp/tame!

I've had my oil-stained wolf for forever and a day, but I am now getting to that point in my pet armory where I am needing to pare down. I have another, plain wolf that may have to go, unless they're going to make the oil-stained wolf unstained >.>

Sigh, flying around doing Archaeology, look down and remember seeing a post about a sparkly tallstrider, so I flew down into the barrens and tamed one using the same method I was using for The Lone Hunter, got one on my first try. He's a pretty addition to my collection, but so silly that I STILL can't get that dog with the sword.
Dog with a sword for a pet and a dog with an axe and bow *worgen hunter* look so great together ;D
