I'm not understanding how a bar would work? Do you mean the bar increasing slightly with each post? If you do, I really have no idea how that's possible.

If you mean the bar increasing (the image changing) with each member group you change to, that makes more sense to me.

The way I see it, the person with the highest post count has a full bar, and everyone else's bar is a fraction of the length based on how may posts they have relative to the user with the most posts (think of how a dynamic DPS or threat meter addon works).

If this is what Saturo was suggesting, then I'll come out and say that it will be a bad idea that will hurt the community. Why? One of the nice things I like about this forum and the ranking here is that a new user can quickly shed themselves of the 'Newbie' title, and feel like they are a part of the community here that much faster. But, if they see their post count bar looking like it's practically empty, then there is the sense that they will never be on equal footing with the other members of these forums. We want to appear to be welcoming and inclusive to new members that want to contribute, rather than exclusive with a long climb to reach the point where you are considered and equal. It's a big factor in why I made sure that my displayed usergroup remains Riftstalker, even though I qualify for Scourgestalker and the fancy green name that goes with it (I also like the Riftstalker armor set merely because it has use well beyond its time, and lightning comes out of the shoulders :P).

So, all my ranting aside, I don't think that Saturo's idea need be tossed out completely. It's nice and simple, and there's a simple workaround to the issue that I brought up; just have the bar fill up on a logarithmic scale. In other words, going from 10 posts to 20 posts will be a much larger growth in the size of the 'post count' bar than going from 110 posts to 120 posts. Specifically, the fraction of the post count bar that would be filled would be the base x log of the user's post count divided by the base x log of the largest post count at the time (x will most likely be 10, but can be changed to adjust the sizes of the post count bar).

Tis exactly why I suggested the pawprints. More you post, the more pawprint stamps you got. ^.^

I don't think, Cialbi, it will hurt the community at all. Almost all forums have that and most people really don't care. If they care, they have a little too much time on their hands and are a minority to say the least. Most people i've come across love a counting bar cause they get to see it go up and they go "Oh! Yay!".

I guess my point is that as the most number of posts that any one user here has goes up, the more imperceptible any increase in the size of the post count bar becomes (the size can actually decrease if your posting rate slows down) A straight post count and set ranks based off of reaching certain post count thresholds, by contrast, will only go in one direction - up.

I kind of veered off and made health-bar styled ranks. I tried to make them as small as I could without losing detail. The health number goes up and is indicated by the post count.

Nice! Very nice.
How long does it take to become a rare? Rare elite?

EDIT: Just occurred to me; rares and rare elites can be any level, yes? Why not make Hunter Trainers have the rare icon, and Stable Masters get the rare elite icon? Mania... well, she can darn well have whatever she pleases!

The upper ranks (the green ones) would all be elites with a different image. And the final rank would be rare elite. I'd have to do something special for the other special ranks like Hunter Trainers, Haiku Masters and Stable masters.

EEE! Those are awesome, Razzy! Much clearer to read and I love the idea of newbies being pet biscuits!

Mania is a raid boss! :D

Well, I guess that would be a step above having been tamed

Or being a pet biscuit

Well, Mania does call herself the hive queen here, her little symbol thing inside of the golden dragon could be a head portrait of either Huhuran or Aiyamiss with a little skull symbol on it of course. ^_^

Mania IS the Hive Queen. ;)

Either Ainamiss or a red crab would be lovely. <3 (Mania's choice in the end, but those are my suggestions. xD)

The red crab looks like he got boiled, and since he's still intact, the poor guy was most likely boiled alive. So...

The red crab is Mania's favorite animal, so regardless of how you think it looks; it would be for her title and therefore her opinion is the only one that would matter.

very cute! Maybe the hunter trainers and such are the rare elites and the beast lords are just rares? or hunter trainers can be just gold elites?

I meant the bar as a simple graphic that changes with every new post, but the logarithmic idea is neat, too!
