As promised, here's a range of magehunters / runed demon dogs.

In a way these are kind of simplistic as they tend to be fairly basic colours. So my aim was to try to fill in the gaps for colours that were unused, and also alternative shades of in-game colours I wasn't so happy with.

Firstly a true red. The in-game "red" is more of an orange:



Yellow was a colour I really wanted to make. Here's a couple I was happy with. The first is more of an orange, the second a more basic yellow:



The in-game green is the colour I like the least. Probably because it looks like a washed-out cyan, and seems to be a bit sickly to me. Then again it is used for plague hounds Here's three different greens I made. Firstly an olive green, then a strong true green, then finally green runes on a dark skin, which I think comes out very cleanly:



Indigo. As I post this I wonder if I should redo this one with much brighter runes. Perhaps in a more of an electric blue...



Another missing colour, purple. Strong purple, then magenta. I decided to add the pink one to this set as well:



Finally, I experimented with some white ones. I found I liked them much better when the background skin had some colour to it. Grey was just too... well, greyscale. Here's a couple I was especially fond of:

Eeeee! Just goes to show how much I love the black skin tone as the background. I agree about that electric blue thing.

Not that I get to choose my puppies....but cute.

Ooh, I'd change Mortifer to that black/green skin in a heartbeat. ^
I really love how it makes the runes stand out.

Based on what you said, I tried a few more experiments. Some more way out than others.

Firstly, since people liked the clean, dark background with green runes, I generated equivalents for a few other colours, sky blue, yellow and red:



A couple with extremely dark skins. Black with purple, and black with pink:



Saturated dark backgrounds with white runes. I'm not sure how realistic they look, but they're interesting all the same:



Finally, some saturated dark backgrounds with runes of a different colour. The skins may be a bit saturated and plastic, but I still think they're kinda cool...

Dark indigo with fiery red or icy blue:



Dark blue with green runes:



Dark green made a decent background for a couple of different rune colours. Light blue and yellow:

I really love how dark this one is, and how the white mane and the pink runes pop out beautifully.


I thought I liked the blue ones previously, until I saw this gem. Wow!


My goblin's demon dog Goldie (green currently) would turn into this immediately.

All of them are beautiful Wain, but these four are a cut above the rest for me.

Oooh, I love your eye for these things! The dark green is definitely a lot lovelier with a contrasting color for the runes.

One silly question - would it be possible to do rainbow runes with the black background? Probably not, but wow, that'd be eye-catching!

Go kick Blizzard in their rear end, and tell them to put these in.
I normally don't like the dogs they have in game, I've tried to bond with them, It's never worked. But these.......

Was just thinking we should get like a color palette so we can re color our pet however we want or from presets that would be soooo cool like that we could have every color without blizz wondering which monsters should be re colored.
That doesn't mean we should have a black and white world though, pets would be the same color they've always been we would just get to choose whether we want to change that or not.

Yes, a black and white world wouldn't be suited to a MMO, but it sounds like a fun idea for some sort of Pleasantville single-player RPG!
