Apologies if this is old news.
On the PTR, ant silithids now appear tameable, as Silithids (exotic)!

Amusingly enough, at least the blue ones appear to have scaling issues; I'll see about visiting some of the others.

If they stayed as small as the blue in your screenie, I might even be persuaded to tame one. So cute!

Okay, have tested quite a few ant silithids--various blue, gold/brown and pink ones. The only ones to have the scaling issue were the blue ones in my first post--the blue ones from Hive'Ashi in Silithus are fine.

Oooh any chance you could sneak into AQ and see if those boss silithids that are all grody lookin' are tameable? o.o I think they're called sand reavers? Fankriss the Unyielding is one D:. I know it's a long shot but they're so gross looking and I love them <3_<3

Kurinnaxx, at least, isn't (yet) tameable. He does show Meat, Fungus as diet, but that quite possibly is old.

Cool news, but I'll be pretty disappointed if they're actually intended to shrink as much as that teal Hazzali Worker. I love how enormous my Silithid Swarmer pal Charger is! For a Tauren hunter it's tough to find a pet that feels really imposing and bulky, you know? They all seem diminutive. My ant silithid even feels bigger to me than the rhino I tested.

I would not get your hopes up for sand reavers just yet they are not even classed as anything last time I looked

The last time I looked (in 4.0.6), they were classified as silithids. Thus the diet that matches the Silithid diet.

But considering there are a few things that are untameable and yet still beasts (like the water snakes who have a Crocolisk diet), it's very possible they won't be.

Ooh, I find them a lot more appealing at the smaller size.

I can't guarantee what the plan is, but I think that the larger size is probably the intended one. It's still smaller than a lot of other pets, without being overwhelming--orc females are probably about average character size, if you've never really seen one up close, and the ant silithid probably comes up to her armpit at its highest point, and the rest at about ribcage/waist height. The only tiny one is the blue one from Tanaris (the blue ones from Silithus are large), and that one does seem far too small.

Hmmm. I think I actually prefer the smaller size. They look cuter that way.

ooo, so the golden-brown Gorishi ones in Un'goro are tameable now? I might just be replacing my tan ant with one of those...*ponder*...I might go after Zora now, also.

To a dwarf, they feel quite massive. It's why I adore it.
That and for whatever reason I've totally bonded with my Bandersnitch. Even if there's other colors, I don't think I'll be getting them: I'm a basic brown guy. The way of the bond is mysterious and mighty!

I'm also a fan of the current size. Mantiss is my six-legged guardian who I use for odd jobs when soloing, and I would hate to send in an ant that's anywhere near a squishable size.
Too bad we're so split on which ant silithid size is better.

The brown ant spawned from a quest in southern barrens can be had now. They scale to stay bigger than the lil blue guy in your pic.

Tonywow, that's been true for a while. The speculation is that either the tiny blue ant silithid isn't scaling properly, or the plan is for all ant silithids to scale to that size. Considering that the larger ant silithid size is more or less on par with the sizes of the other silithid models (regular & boss models), and that one one NPC will shrink to the small size size upon taming, the small ant silithid is most likely a fluke.

Yes, I love the current size, and I'm not usually a fan of the larger pets, but it seems so right with this model.

/nod--many of my pets are brown, and I love my current Mica ant, but it has bothered me that my beetle and ant weren't Quite the same shade. So now that I've tamed Zora to match the beetle, I'll be taming an Ungoro ant Mica to match both.

It would be awesome if they could implement a few mobs in all the colours that would actually shrink to that smaller size, and some that would stay large. But, obviously this would be an immense effort and probably very confusing anyway, so it's just a wild dream. First time I've looked at a Silithid and thought "Want!", but I've survived without one thus far, so I can very well continue to do so.
