Hordescorpion issues from WMV to gimp

I am trying to get a black hordescorpion model into gimp. I save the screenshot as a png file, and use "open as layers" to bring it into gimp. However, for some reason, it is transparent! Everything else I saved as a png and opened in gimp "as layers" was fine (see signature), but without fail, the hordescorpions are coming out transparent. I have no idea what the problem is. Anyone else having this issue?
Edit: Also, Veph, if you see this - where are you getting your backgrounds for your signatures from?
Edit 2: Here's the funky scorpid, what gives?
Edit 3: Where on earth are the saber cat models in WMV? I swear I've been to every category and can't find them!

Yeah, I was having that problem too. I never could get it figured out, and had to just pull it in as a .jpg and then get rid of the background manually :/

Ooo, I did save one as a jpeg, but am really new to gimp so couldn't figure out how to delete the background. Could you possibly give me some tips?

Erf, gimp. I don't really know much about it, to be honest, but let's see if I can't help you anyhow.
Um... when you bring in the jpg, you ought to be able to see your layers, right? Well, layer, since it's just the one. But it'll be locked, probably. You're going to want to unlock it, which I know in photoshop you can just double click on the layer in the layers window, and it'll ask if you want to convert it or make it a layer or somesuch, but the end result is it ought to unlock now. The program ought to then treat it like just another layer in it's default style. At this point you ought to be able to select the background and delete it manually that way. Then it's just a matter of selecting your scorpion, copying, and pasting him where he needs to be!
...I'm hoping that helps at all :/ (if it doesn't or if you'd prefer I can borrow your screenshot and fix it up for you, if you wanted to do ti that way!)

Don't save it as a PNG. =P
PNG will make it transparent; save it instead as a BMP.
I only ever use PNG files for Photoshop when I'm doing pets like Loque or character models with particle effects as per this fabulous guide:

Also, if gimp's anything like photoshop, to get rid of the background, you right click the layer in the layers window (on photoshop it says 'background') and then click 'layer from.' I've never used GIMP so I'm not sure if there's something similar.

Hrm, I just tried that and it still made it transparent. x_x
And the jpeg layer thing didn't work out so well either, at least not with gimp.
Edit: I give up for now, it's not worth getting frustrated over. I don't think gimp's layer stuff is very similar to photoshop because I can't seem to do anything I want with the background/transparency. Blargh. Why, of all models, does this scorpion have to be screwy? Why not the "bubblecreature" or whatever it was?

I've never had an issue with my bmp files being transparent, only pngs. Wish I knew something about GIMP to help you...but I've only ever used Photoshop. X_X

Hrm... I don't have any idea, really. It certainly is a picky thing, this scorpion :/
And while I know this doesn't -solve- the original problem, would this work for what you want?

Aw, I appreciate it! I'm going to just stick with what I have for now, though. I've been working on this dumb thing for a few hours now and I don't wanna mess with it anymore.
I may look into getting photoshop if I can snag one for a reasonable price. I've used it before in the past and it's probably a wee bit easier to use than gimp.
Oh and thank you, you guys!!! I appreciate the help.

Hey, no worries! I just felt bad we couldn't get it sorted out and didn't want to leave you with -nothing-

Hmm, do you happen to know where saber cats are in WMV? That would help me feel a little better.
And no worries! I'm glad you were willing to give any advice at all! Stupid WMV! Stupid gimp!

Woot! For some reason I didn't think to look there, I think the "frost" threw me off and I didn't even bother to look.

See, you did help!

I only know it because I pretty much have to hunt it out every single time I need it for something, so I finally learned where they were.

late with a reply ....sorry Gimp, to make the background transparent click on it and the command is set to alpha, this will set the color of whatever pixel you clicked on to alpha or zero and set all other pixels of that tone to zero as well. I havent checked but im thinking this is part of the issue you are having with madoxx, the image is faded as though one or more of the colors used to make the image are set to alpha or that a background of one of the other images isnt set to alpha (that make sence theres a whitish covering over the image that may be infact the background of another image?)
