what do i do when i see someone with a dmg buff pet?

i just saw a hunter standing in the honor quartermaster's room in stormwind with a plaguehound, which made me sososo mad. i love trick tame pets, and people taming the taboo ones are going to ruin it for everyone! not to mention that they are cheating, esp if they are using them for pvp.

so i whispered the guy, and explained that the damage buff pets were off limits, and that blizzard has said (unofficially) that the appearance pets are fine but not the damage dealing ones. i also explained that they are considered exploiting and that he can be banned just for having it. he replied with "they will just patch it".....

should i report him? really trying to decide if that would be a dick move or not. i reeeeeeally don't want the appearance buff pets to ever be taken away, but people like this are going to force blizzard's hand. :(

I would report him.

Then let a Blizzard GM patch his pet by removing the whole pet from him. :|

It will probably not result in ban, but a warning... and then if he does it again (and gets caught) then something worse might happen.

Yeah, good on you ^^ It's people like that who will end up ruining it for everyone else - best to let Blizz deal with them and hopefully that won't influence the other visual buffed pets.

What?

You want to report someone for having a cool pet?

/sigh

Edit: Read your thread title, dmg buff I see.

Well, what about mentioning what exact buff he has?

It's been discussed in a few places on the forum - if you use the trick to tame pets with appearance buffs on pets that have damage buffs, you can have a pet with a buff like +15% damage done or +10% melee haste, things like that (I'm making up the examples because I can't remember exactly and I'm too lazy to go look ;)). I can't remember what the buff is for the plaguehounds.

A lot of them appear to be AoE damage for just being near the pets.
I'd report it as well - as if they've read about "how to tame pets with special appearances" I'm sure they also saw the list of BAD pets at the same time!

Who knows, with some luck - maybe Blizzard will fix them, keeping the appearance but removing the actual non-cosmetic attributes.

I don't think there's enough luck in the world for this. The thing that makes them look like that is the buff. The buff, therefore, needs to be removed to get rid of the effect. Having Blizzard work to program removing a damage effect just so someone can keep a cool pet that *should not have been tamed in the first place* is just... really too much to ask. Hell, it would be too much to ask *me*, and I own a flaming boar. :)

if they somehow did find a way to fix the damage thing while keeping the appearance buff, i would love to pick up a plaguehound. they look so awesome like that! >.<

@ the person asking: the plaguehounds are in epl where nathaniel blightcaller used to be (pretty sure that's where they are anyway). they are regular mastiffs that are surrounded by a bright green cloud/aura (as if they are poisoned) and the damage buff they have is a nature damage aoe aura.

also i wouldn't report someone for having a trick tame pet lol, i have 11 appearance buff pets across several different hunters myself, and have walked multiple people through the process of taming one. :)

I thought all of those pets with damage-buffs lost the buff on death, meaning it shouldn't be much of a problem if he take it to pvp. Perhaps I'm wrong tho, I'm not sure :P

@Kurasu: The buff itself would be linked to a number of different variables. It would be possible to just disable the "damage aura" (etc) part yet leave the "cosmetic appearance" part if Blizzard so wished.

well he was pvp flagged on a pve server, and standing in the honor vendor room...so one can only assume that is what he was doing but i guess i can't be 100% sure. if he was ignorant enough to not know of the taboo on it then he may also not know that it will lose the buff when it dies, and may have just not had it killed yet. /shrug

@dark - i am aware of that. i was responding to someone /sighing at me because they thought i was reporting someone with an appearance only buffed pet. :)

I see that now :P That'll teach me not to re-read the thread in context!

I had to replace one of my spiders, so looked up suitable candidates on petopia. The winner turned out to be the tainted nightstalker... I went ahead and tamed it without the buff. Looking at them in the wild, they seem to be foaming green at the mouth :P
