idea: Battle.net pet tracking?

You know how the battle.net armory site tracks achievements, well why not have it track rare tames?
Example you click on the pet list it shows all the pets as usual, & then on the right side is a menu for last tamed:
Sambas - 1 day ago
I dunno was just thinking about it, noticing the alliance I saw last night had tamed Jadefang while I was on, & it would've been nice if I could've seen exactly when, rather than having a four hour window to work with.
I think it'd be helpful especially if you saw several hunters cruising the same area for the same rare you were after, you could just look up their name & see if they got the pet, & have a time-frame.
I dunno' just a thought; I know it wouldn't fly though cause you'd know exact spawn timers, but I can wish can't I? ^^

I think that would make it too easy to find rares. The reason they are rares is mainly because of their spawn timer, and if people knew exactly when they were last tamed/killed every time, it just wouldn't be as... rare. But then again, that's just my opinion.

I'd rather suggest an addon or something that tracks the last time you saw a pet, regardless of what zone you're currently in, and eventually states whether it was killed or tamed.

I just want some way to tell what a pet was pre-tame. That way I could tell if someone bragging about thier Humar is just Pitch or thier Madexx being a Venomscale Spitter.

I think it would be interesting to have something like this, but on the bad side people might be able to track ... say Loque for items looted and get a spawn time and farm it repeatedly just for the money sack.

I agree that it would be too easy for people just wanting to kill the pets to figure out a spawn pattern if there was a time associated with the tame in the armory, but it would be neat if for any rare spawns a person has in their stable, they put a little silver dragon around the icon to denote it as such.

I do that anyway*. :P
Doesn't the armory show your most recently looted blues/purples? It's pretty easy to see 'Loque'nahak's Nondescript Bodypart of Such and Such' and associate it with the critter and the time it was looted. Granted I think it does that for AH purchases as well, but I don't think a lot of people are going to drop gold for the Spirit Beast/Northrend Rare items unless they're like me and collect them for roleplay, hurr.
It's a decent idea all-in-all, but even if you resorted to just 'rare' statuses in your stable that's not going to stop people from killing tameable rares. I think that is a concern that cannot be realistically attended to at the moment, so it's probably best to focus on the merits of the suggestion itself, rather than how Bob is just going to use it to camp Skoll.
* Well, I did. But then I realized how horribly impractical it all was, since the gold looted from the rare doesn't really justify the time spent searching. I'm still after that cat for his pelt, but I don't think I kill any rares with money in mind. Mostly I just stick the sack in the guild bank and leave it be.

Personally, I want this for a different reason. I occasionally used to see people with 'OMG AWESOME-LOOKING!' pets as a newbie, and they wouldn't let me know what it was so I could go looking for it. Or they were on the opposite side, and I couldn't talk to them. Me, myself, I don't have such a problem with it any more, but I can't help but think there are a lot of newbies who see a cool pet, want to know where it is, *and* are smart enough to pop open Wowhead or Thottbot (or heck, even Google) to look for it once they know the 'old identity'.

In retrospect, why does this even matter?
Tons of hunters talk about the 'important' rares being 'unique', why do you care if someone's Humar is Pitch or Madexx is a Venomscale? They're not 'unique' and therefore, by that logic, not as 'special'. Are they hurting anyone besides themselves when they lie? Last I heard there's no law that says you can't name your Pitch Humar or your cheetah Dishu, and if someone is so desperate to gauge someone's "hunterism" by the authenticity of their 'rares'...that kind of makes me sad.
It's just a whole 'nother level of psuedo-elitism to me. :/

...I thought this post was going to be about using the armory to set up viewable stables in our profiles here on Petopia

It annoys me. I've worked so hard getting my rares, including my red and green Madexx. Right before they added the spitter, I saw someone with a brown Madexx and I felt sorry for them. I'll bet they get tells calling them a wannabe for using a spitter all the time. Well, it wasn't a spitter.

If anyone whispers someone else about their badass scorpid /pity-ing them for not having the RIGHT one, uh... they have reached a level of nerd-sad so low I'm just going to have to shuffle my feet uncomfortably and gently suggest that maybe they should go outside for a little bit.
Personally I think getting the rare you want should be enough. Some excited squealing to friends/guildies/people in the know about rare pets, I can understand. Wanting to trumpet it on the Armory strikes me as unadulterated, pointless bragging.
