I use a raptor on my toon that's around the same level, although tonight I'm going for a serpent from WC.

At level 20, I feel like you should be not worrying so much about DPS and more having fun as a hunter. It doesn't have to be a mad rush to the top. Get one for looks, get one for DPS, get one for solo. But again, it doesn't matter that much. The difference is minimal especially at your level. It only gets nitpicky when you raid and that's going to be a while for you. Even then, people use unconventional pets.

I'm with the others here, leveling a hunter is about having fun with the pets... On my level 21 hunter, I have a tallstrider (she's fierce!), a moth (you never saw it coming! And she holds aggro like WHOA!), and a scorpid (I'm totally in love with this guy, though I think he'll shine more once I get a few tiers into the talent tree). Completely different choices from my first hunter, and I'm having so much fun with it! xD

I agree with what everyone else said, you really don't need to be worrying about the best dps at your level. Besides, without all the talents, I don't think you'd see much of a difference between the trees anyway. Just go with something you like and that appeals to you - chances are it will perform well and last you until you're 80, when you want to start raiding.

I've personally used everything from boars to wolves to cats to carrion birds, and they all do quite well in just about any situation at lower levels. :)

Even at higher levels it doesn't really matter, unless you need to be selective for high-level dungeons and raids. Taigi is in her fifties and I've been using a cunning pet; he holds aggro just as well and we still kill things quickly.

I think it's only really an issue when you're selecting a pet for PVP, or for end-game content.

if you want a 'good' dps pet go find a pet you love and enjoy yes leveling i would advise a wolf ap buff that applies to you and only you BoM and warr shout will cancel it out but when leveling ... srsly how many people buff >.> even at 80 i had a druid pala priest mage me party and none could buff i wish i still had a wolf but raptors are cute and nice damage liek cats :D and ravagers are nice to though like i said take a pet that you like the most or if you want to annoy your group get a big wasp :3 melee hate them they make a 'nice' sound and 5% armor reduce never hurt anyone :3
