I've heard nothing about Penguins, and I truthfully can't really picture them being a family, but Hydras are definitely a strong rumour. There is nothing to guarantee that they're coming, but there have been hints dropped that Blizzard is at least thinking about Hydras. At the moment nothing is certain though, we'll all just have to wait and see.

well i think that they'll both be tamable eventully i can totally see the Penguin as one mainly for pvp, it could have a buff like ability that slows down the enemy and its not like they wont beable to place the Penguins around the world lol
and i think it would be prety funny to beat some1 with a Penguin by your side lmao

So far Hydras are the only new pet family that have been datamined. Nothing about Penguins or any others.

....Wat?...
I think someone fibbed to you, my dear. Hydras were the only rumored family...Penguins are just a mini pet.

I'd love a pet penguin to fight by my side

But I don't see that happening any more than feathered tallstriders!

Hydra's are hotest topic in -next to possible be tamed- pets. I think them and Stags where the most asked for pets on the thread blizzard opened to hunters for what they would like to see tamable.
Haven't heard anything about penguins, and for the most part the model is more for small mini-pets then it is for hunter pets. Along those lines though, I am surprised that seagulls became tamable, but then again I REALLY love my Highwind.
Hydra's are a strong possiblity of becoming tamable, penguins...dont hold your breath.

I'm just wondering how they're gonna make Hydras run when they're tamed. Remember when the Devilsaurs were first made tamable and their walking and running was a greatly sped-up version of their normal-sized walk? Ugh, that was so horrible, I'm still thanking Blizz for changing it to the running animation. Here's to hoping that Hydras won't look completely goofy when they charge after an enemy.

I am still wondering if Blizzard is doing something sneaky with Hydras and all of the disappearing patch notes that include them...
I am not 100% sure if Hydras really need to be "tested" on the PTR considering a lot of people have the Ghost Hydra already, so Blizz already knows that Hydras "work".
I would not be surprised at all if Blizzard threw Hydras onto 4.1 when it went live and then if any bugs arose then dealt with them then... I see Blizzard doing that JUST to surprise hunters.
...it would also make a lot of hunters scramble to get the one they want considering no one knew IF Blizzard would do that or not... except maybe Wain's friend Noah.... and maybe even Wain...

April Fools is coming up in a couple weeks too...... even though its been out for a very long time i will find no suprise in them leading us all the way up to it and then saying its a joke, then throwing them into the game sometime later after private testing.. -shrug- my guess

they totally need to make the penguins tamable ainly for pvp and water they could make it so they have an attack that slows enemys and a buff for you and every1 in your raid group so you can swim faster ya kno wat im sayin??

Well I can forsee Penguins being a possibility but its slim. I mean think about it having a little penguin slap you across the face versus a hulking hydra snapping at your face. I mean think about it
Hydras - Belowing Roar (PTR Confirmed); Increases Melee and Ranged Attack Power by 5%. (Warriors Battle Shout 2.0)
Penguins (I came up with this) - Belly Flop; Your penguin jumps down and slams the ground interrupting all spell casting and silencing all nearby casters for 3 seconds. (Its a little OP :3)
Hehe enjoy

I think Gulls are just as weird as Penguins in terms of combat pets.

Actually, that's from *datamining*. I'm on the PTR. At the moment, hydras have no special abilities at all.

My crocohydra's not talentable, and has no special abilities.
