Hello :) I have been visiting Petopia for a while now, and thought I'd try my hand at a little story. Please let me know what you think. Just a quick one, a test really. Enjoy the read :)

Seated atop her black horse, standing in the background near the wall of Goldshire’s Inn, Theropoda watched the antics of the people in the road. Many were newly arrived denizens to the world of Azeroth, still of low heath and power and able to wear only the most basic of attire. Theropoda smiled to herself, remembering what that was like for her.
As if rousing from a dream into consciousness, she had opened her eyes to find herself standing before Northshire Abbey. She was wearing the barest of clothes, had a crossbow in her hands, and a sleek grey wolf by her side. A man dressed in gleaming armor stood before her and said, “Welcome, I am Marshall McBride. You must be the new recruit in town!” He inspected his papers quickly, “Theropoda, isn’t it? Hunter class. I’ll be giving you your first assignment shortly...”
The name reverberated throughout her mind, and the sluggish shackles of the dream fell away, leaving her feeling invigorated and aware of her purpose. Theropoda looked down to the beast at her side, and found she could almost feel what was in its thoughts... she and the wolf were linked.
“He wants to hunt...” She whispered.
“Yes, we are in the middle of a battle with a band of Blackrock orcs that have invaded this valley. We require you to help us thin them out!”
The wolf yipped as in in anticipation and a slow smile spread across Theropoda’s face. McBride pointed towards the side of the Abbey where his men were clashing against the orc’s large fanged worgs. In unison, Theropoda and her wolf ran towards the snarling enemy, and guided by an instinct she did not know she possessed she fired her first shot into the worg’s side. Her wolf ran ahead, snarling at the worg and holding its attention as two more arrows slammed into its hide. With a yowl of defeat the worg crumpled to the ground and her worlf returned to her side, its job complete.
A ringing laugh brought Theropoda back to the present, as two duelers leaped about on the road, flinging spells at one another until one’s mana ran dry and was defeated. It was two paladins Theropoda noted, she guessed they were both well before their 40th ascension. That was the second thing she learned in the world, how here it was possible to ascend, rise to a new level of power and abilities once you had experienced enough. When she awoke in that Northshire valley she was at the lowest assecsion, or level in the slang terminology. Level One. After her first battle with the worgs she reported back to the Marshall and experienced her first ascension. It was a marvelous experience, a wonderous light enveloped her and her mind expanded, and her abilities along with it. Before she had left Northshire valley she had ascended 5 times. But as she was to find out, that was just the start of her journey.
Theropoda shifted uncomfortably on her horse, fighting back a yawn. She had not been sleeping well of late, despite retiring to her Inn of choice utterly exhausted from her day’s activities. She was troubled with disturbing dreams... dreams of a darkened sky... and firey embers in the air. And the roars of terrified creatures all around her. The Inn keeper has asked her about her lack of sleep, and upon learning of it suggested she go see the mystical and wise gnoll of the Darkmoon Faire, which was, as luck had it, being held in her old home of Goldshire.
She looked once more to the vistors standing in the road. Many were of the highest ascension attainable, the 85th, and wore spectacular armor and robes. And what was more, they had mounts which could fly! And not just the gryphons, similar to those who could taxi you about, many had exotic drakes of every colour. They spoke of lands called Outland, and Northrend, and a city called Dalaran. How she marveled at them. She was on her 32nd ascension and so had far to go. But she could dream...
Returning to her purpose of being there Theropoda nudged her horse forward and trotted into the Faire grounds. Delightful and cheery music was playing, there were stalls all about, and much wonders to see. Many people had come to the Faire and were jostling for the best positions at the stalls. She stopped outside of the last tent, where a gnoll dressed in a tan robe sat before a small table. He regarded her with tiny eyes as she took a seat across from him. He then leaned in close and stared at her eyes intently.
“Yes... I can see...” He said, then sat back with a smile, “You are a hunter!”
Theropoda nodded, “Yes. I have come here because of these dreams I am having...”
“You have a beast, yes? I see many hunters, they always have a beast.”
“Yes, but..”
“Many beasts, big, small, most of them smelly. And always a wolf! So many wolfs, what is it with the wolfs. If not a wolf its a smelly bear!”
Theropoda blinked, “Actually I prefer the cats...”
Sayge pointed a claw at her, “Ah yes indeed. You are close with your cat beasts.”
“Very, but I came here...”
“Can u smell it? The fire in the air. It is all around...” Sayge said suddenly.
“In my dreams.”
Sayge leaned in close once more, “It came from the sky.” He nodded once, “He remembers.” All the sounds of the Faire died off in the background as Theropoda focused on the gnoll. He continued, “You were born here, but a part of you somewhere else... a land so long ago the very earth has forgotten it. Do you feel it Theropoda? A part of you thats old, and primal. He feels it within you, it is why he chose you.”
“Who chose? And why?” Theropoda whispered.
“It is the soul of an ancient beast, that walked the earth in another land, before there were orcs or man. When all was tooth and claw. Do you know how you got your name? You were found asleep in Northshire Valley, with a word scratched in the dirt beside you. ‘Theropoda’. That’s what the humans called you when you awoke. You share a bond with this soul, who has chosen you with whom he could live again through you... and your beast. He was known as Tyrannaar, lord of the tyrannosaurs. It is his last moments you are seeing in your dreams. But you’ve not just seen it in dreams.”
Theropoda felt cold at that, “No...”
“It comes from the sky here also... fire. Deathwing’s fire. Deathwing’s destruction. That infernal dragon could do to this world what nature did to Tyrannaar’s world... and he needs you to stop him.”
“Hey Thero!” Came from the crowd outside and Theropoda looked to see her friends in the middle of the Faire, drinking back foaming Darkmoon reserve ales and getting quite smashed. SHe waved at them and held up a finger, for them to wait a little bit longer.
“How can I do that, I am only a 32, that monster is well over...”
“Don’t use that slang, it doesn’t become you. In time you will become more powerful than you can imagine right now... now listen closely. One day you will have ascended to the highest level, and when that day comes he will call to you. You have a task before you, one you were born to undertake, one you were named and chosen especially for. In the hot vined steamyness of the Sholozar Basin there lives a beast, a great green skinned devilsaur known only as King Krush. You are to venture there and claim this beast as a companion. And Tyrannaar will live again, at your side. Do this and your soul will be complete. For you are Theropoda, soul of the theropods, the greatest predators to ever walk the earth.”
“Come quick before Fogone drinks it all!” The shout from her friend Astralis made her jump a bit, and Theropoda turned to look at him. When she turned back Sayge was in the back of his tent, polishing a pearly ball.
“Go on young hunter, you have much to do!”
Theropoda slipped from her chair and walked back towards her waiting friends, still in amazement of what she had heard. Her friends were from the guild they called ARCADIANS, and were of the noble Draenei race. Fogone, Astralis and Kylandraed smiled back at her, all holding large tankards of booze.
“So, what’s your fortune? Let me guess, you are destined to kill ten thousand Horde in one battleground? No wait, that’s mine!” Astralis grinned.
“Hmm, just ten thousand?” Kylandraed said. Fogone shook his head, his white hair flowing down his shoulders.
“No man thats ten thousand and one!”
“Fog, you’ll be too busy healing my butt.” Astralis chortled.
“I dont think I have enough mana for that Ast!” Fogone laughed and the three of them punched each others armor and shoved each other about.
Theropoda smiled at her friends, and patted them back towards the Goldshire inn. Despite the many dangers that lay ahead, she felt secure in that she had the support of her friends. And now a new purpose, a reason to ascend faster. Theropoda joined her friends inside the Goldshire inn for a drink, and allowed the atmosphere to ease her into a contented evening.
And thousands of miles away in the depths of the Sholozar basin, a King was waiting.
