Hey all
So this weekend i will dedicate a whole night to camping sambas 5 spawn places

ill be using /tar sambas macro.
I need to know what i should have with me for that little journey. food, book, etc
What will i need to survive 12-24 hours of camping?
I need some ideas for things i can get time going by with (other than the thought of getting a epic pet)
So im thinking of starting around 22:00 friday nigth and going until the morning without leaving my computer beside restroom breaks for 1-2 mins. Or is there any other time period you guys would suggest?
Cheers Flammen

1. I recommend SilverDragon and NPCScan/NPCScan_Overlay
2. Lots of mountain dew
3. Patience.

Will Npcscan_overlay pop a warning of some kind?
And does it have to be setup manually?

NPCScan_Overlay shows you his spawn points as well as others. Only thing you'll have to do is clear your cache manually(avoid any major cities) and have it show up even if Sambas is Cached. SilverDragon is a safety net incase he does get cached on accident. but NPCScan will blare at you if he himself or a hunters pet is picked up on the scanner.

Other nice thing with the overlay, is if by chance your NPC_Scan gets cached, the overlay color disappears. This lets you know that you need to clear you cache to reset it. I like silverDragon too, and I have them both, but it has always been NPC_Scan that has found the rare first.

Taken from

Clearing Your Cache
To clear your cache, follow these straightforward steps:
1. Exit World of Warcraft.
2. Delete the “Cache” sub-directory inside your World of Warcraft folder. For example on a standard Windows XP installation, you would delete the folder “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache”.
* Advanced users can delete “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enUS\creaturecache.wdb” specifically to improve log-in times, where enUS is your language code.
Good luck

you can always check in with general every once in a while to see if ppl have seen, or tamed, dont do that too often tho or they'' get mad n say ur spamming. but if they've been "killed" ask to see the body. if they've been skinned, ask to see their professions. good luck on ur camp i hope u get him. hes a real prize to have

Mine or herb, best way. I mined during my 12 hour Sambas camp (successful, luckily), and made around 8k. It also helped to have people to talk to while I did it, guildies or whatever.

That is optional, but I thought it was only if the npc has been killed by the eventual player using the addon?

If I come out of a bg and someone had the rare as a pet in the game, or if I open up my stables and I have one of the rares, my overlays are gone and I have to reset.
There is also an option in NPC scan to not display the overlay if you have killed it, I have that turned on as well for the achievement tracking. Those overlays will not come back even if you reset.

Hi! Another good way to hunt this guy with with tomtom, its a cords mod and why I use this over npcscan overlay is because you get a lil arrow that literally points you in the right direction
If you have tomtom give it a try, make a macro that looks like this:
/way 38.2 53.2
/way 42.8 38.4
/way 46.0 29.2
/way 49.8 23.2
/way 68.6 25.6
I got fancy while searching for my sambas and ended up making that macro plus one that the numbers were backwards so when I hit from one side I could hit the other one to go back the other way. And personally I like this method so I am not searching the mini map for the overlay and didn't worry about him being cached

When I camped Sambas, I think I started at around 11am, then finished the next day around 2pm, took a nap, got up around 4pm and immediately found Karoma, then later that evening found Sambas using a /tar macro. It was fairly painful and grueling. I'd set up a large number of movies to have playing near you so you can have something else to stare at now and then, and be able to listen to something else to break up the monotony. When you need to get up to use the bathroom or something, make sure to have sound turned up and set things up so you can hear NPCscan if it goes off. Definitely make sure you have easy food that you can just throw in the microwave, and lots of instant coffee.
Good luck!!! It was totally worth it. Painful, nerve wracking, grueling, did I mention kind of painful? Left me an emotional wreck from lack of sleep and anxiousness that I might miss him and all the hours would be for naught, but I got him and I love him to pieces. He really feels like an "epic" pet.

Have an entertainment source nearby for between patrols. Movies, music, books, webcomics, etc. Just remember to keep up the patrols every 5-10 minutes or so, so that you stand a chance of glimpsing him even if he got killed/tamed (having spawn time helps!). Try to keep bio breaks less than 5-10 minutes, too--more than once I've come back from even a 'call of nature' to have a rare waltzing around nearby, or an alert with nothing in sight. Quickly made food or munchies are also a plus, and I've got to agree with the Mtn. Dew.
Just try not to overdo the 'Dew if you're not used to it, though...I had three cans of the Game Fuel one night and ended up unable to sleep for 24 hours (and caffeine makes me sleepy)!

several good playlists, plenty of microwavable meals or easy made snacks if you hunger, soda.soda.more soda.soda. something cute to hug a friend you can make watch the screen while you pee [this has come in handy before for me ]

#1 tip I always give to hunters, get npcscan and learn to clear cache.
Several times I have looked over a spawn point and then have npc go off as I fly away. Karoma has spawned under me twice as I was flying to the next spot.

Get someone to talk to on skype or the phone. Helps a lot, esspecially if they're there to camp with you.

Can a guildie camp one spot, and you camp another? Like...the ones farthest from each other? And you guys just patrol 2-3 each?
I found him today at the point right over Victors Point...and there was a few minutes of heartbreaking panic because he spawned while I was on a FP and my game hung up as I logged to get dumped somewhere so I could fly back. Then I flew back and it took me ALL THE WAY TO THE FARTHEST FP in Highbank and then BACK UP to Victors point!
So be vigilant! You'll get him!
