Do you consider a color-changing pet to be a distinct look?

I realized tonight that I use one set if criteria to calculate how many new pet looks we've gained since Cataclysm, and another criteria to actually list those out. The big difference is whether or not I count color-changing pets as a unique look or not.

Note that I'm talking about pets that randomly select from more than one color when they are summoned, not pets like Madexx who occur in more than one color but don't change between them. An example: the Gundrak Raptor will choose between blue and grey each time it is summoned.

So the questions is: does the Gundrak Raptor look count as a distinct pet look, or is it just a combination of distinct pet looks and shouldn't be counted as something on its own?

Well...I kind of see it both ways, but I'm going to go ahead and say yes just because I know some people have worked out color-changers being indecisive of how they wish to look. :)

Yes!

I'd love nothing more than a worg who changes colors; it'd clear out so many stable slots for me >.> For the Northrend Worg model, I LOVE the Sentry Worg--the pets are good for those who like more than one skin or are indecisive, and they stand out in my mind for their color-swapping characteristics!

Regardless of how I personally feel about colour changing pets (I don't like 'em because it feels like I have multiple pets with the same name and no control over which one I use...) I think for your purpose you should consider them distinct, Mania, simply because a lot of users seem to. (Holy run-on sentence, sorry!)

Yes because it's noticable. I've seen very very few people with a color changer before.

I don't call it a unique look simply because it just changes to the colors of an already common skin. But that's just me.

My vote goes that the color changers should count as their own distinct look, if for nothing else so that people have a "warning" about them. I use warning loosely because there are those who will see it and be all "sweet! I can have ONE raptor with TWO choices? I'mma get me one of those!" but also those who would avoid it for that exact reason.

I consider them distinct, and figure there are others who do too.

I think they should remain their own, distinct looks on Petopia. I had a colour-changing Ravager, before Blizzard made them stable, named Eris, after the Greek goddess of chaos, because of her indecisiveness. She just wasn't the same after she was made a stable, purple ravager, so I had to let her go.

They're the perfect solution for people who want more than one look for their pet, but can only have one of that family in their stables. I like how Petopia lists the colour changers. Please don't change that.

guess it depends on how you view things

if 2 like things are different -they are separated
if 1 thing is like both of them -it is considered a hybrid and holds it's own category

I see a paint that changes color not defined by 1 color but by it's variants
and by that view it is a distinction

thats just my 2

I think that color-changers have their own unique status among hunter pets. I suppose for RP purposes, the Gundrak Raptor would be something like a chamelion, changing it's skin. They're also great for people that would love to have multiple colors of their favorite family, but don't have all that much space in their stables (color-changer Devilsaur? Woot!).

So, yes. I think that color-changers are distinct and unique from their non-changing cousins.

I thought they stabilised the Gundrak raptor to the blue colour?

Regardless, I voted Yes, colour chanegrs should be categorised in their own distinct look. It just makes sense to me, their lack of a stable skin is just as defining as the differences between two stable skinned models.

You're thinking of Zul'drak that got stabilized :3 Gundrak isn't.

Ah, sorry, my bad. They're in the same zone and confused me with their wiley raptor ways! D:

To me it depends on what context the 'distinct look' is being used for.

When calculating the amount of total pet appearances we have as a whole, I would not consider a colour-changer utilizing models that can be tamed statically elsewhere as a unique pet. We already had those models as their own individual creatures, and as long as one of the changing skins isn't the only way you can obtain it, then they don't really seem like a completely distinct look on their own.

However, I do think that colour-changers should be listed separately on Petopia like they are currently. I really love the new way of displaying a colour-changer rather than relying on a footnote beside a mob name to check. The individual page is easier to differentiate at a glance.

^ This, thank you.
