Spend it, duh.

So here's the story. My main is an engineer, and super cool and etc. etc. but she's not skilled enough to make a Mechano-Hog just yet and completely drained her funds leveling it up, but I really, really want one. Like 'I will sacrifice children to get one' want one. I see them on the Ah fairly constantly and went "Screw it, I'll buy one.".

I am terrible at money and so this never happened.

I moved my warrior over to the right faction(Horde, obviously) a few days ago with the money she scraped up from leveling inscription/herbalism and doing the Cata zones. I noticed that the quests for these zones reset as well and I was thinking...

With the money from inscription/herbs on the AH and the Cata zone quests + any loot I find/sell and a few completely legal "gift art with monetary gift in return" commissions, I could probably scrape up enough to get my 'hog.

Oooor.

Instead of dropping 16k on a ground mount I could devote that cash(which is probably the most I've ever earned. Ever.) towards bettering my warrior, who I'm sort of thinking about doing raids and the like with. Granted a lot has to change about my playstyle, but she's better geared and closer to being ready for...well, anything than my hunter is. But I feel like I'd get back to said hunter if I had the Mechano-Hog of badassery to cruise around in, since the only reason I even bothered playing my warrior was to make money/glyphs to funnel over to my hunter.

I'm super super super casual, so I don't even know if raiding is really right for me. I play on a RP server, too, and while there are fantastic raiding guilds they're mostly hardcore, at least Hordeside.

I think I've mostly weighed the pros and cons of bike vs raiding crap and decided the ability to draw pin-ups of my half-orc on a 'hog > being able to get shiny purples. But I figured I'd ask for opinions first. ;P

Shiny purples expire in value at the next patch. Your mounts can stay with you forever.


only trouble is - some mounts are only obtainable with lots of shiny purples and loads of raiding time.

I just recently bought the Vial of the Sands with no regrets. I've made peace with the fact that I really have no interest in raiding.

I talked it over with some friends as well and they're all in favor for the 'hog, so I think that's what I'm gonna do. :)

In honesty I'm not after the shiny purples at all - just shiny mounts. :P But I'm a very casual collector(I have maybe 80? 75?) so I tend to shoot for things below my level range that can be solo'd/two-manned or close to it. Rarely I'll run into people who do weekly BC raids and the like and that's always fun, but I don't really think I would enjoy current raiding as-is. I'd much rather roam the planet on my motorcycle of pure awesome.

I thought about the Vial, too, but from a roleplay standpoint an engineer on a bike makes more sense than an engineer turning into a dragon. It is cool though. If I ever figure this money thing out, I might get it for my warrior. :D

I've gotten 2 characters a Mechano-Hog, and I have another that i'm pondering either giving it to a level 40 toon, just so I can be "that guy" who equips a level 40 with a 12k mount, or i may sell it. On my server I might be able to get 13-14k for it, but since i'm a goblin, if i check the AH for a few days to gather up other mats to make them with, I can make them for roughly 11-11.5k

16k is WAY too much to spend on one of these, but for 13-14k its definately worth every minute of it.

Buying BOE epics is just going to be a waste of money, especially with ilvl 359 epics available in the next patch. Granted those dungeons will be "hard" for a bit, but after a few months most pugs will be able to whip through them easily. (Think the Argent tourney dungeon in WOTLK, or the Magister's Terrace in BC)


Having the Hog is super fun though, especially the 2 seater part of it, it makes it pretty fun in PVP or just messing around with a friend

Unfortunately they're sitting at about 18k on my server now. :( I've still got time to save, though, so maybe I can convince someone to knock the price down a bit - I do have a maxed engineer friend, so I might be able to bribe him into making it for me in return for the gold to purchase the items and save some gold that way.

I've loved the hog ever since it came out. I didn't actually know how expensive it was until not too long ago - I always thought it was just really unpopular. And then I stumbled on one in the AH and went "Oh, ouch.".

Admittedly part of me feels a little silly since I could be buying epic flying for my warrior or buying a slightly more useful(i.e. flying) mount...but heck, it's a motorcycle. I'll ride the silly thing everywhere.

I will regularly make private polite counteroffers to sellers I see on the AH. Saved over 6k off my sandstone drake that way.

Or something like that. It'll work once one of the sellars is desperate for gold

This x3. The one thing I'll spend my gold on is mounts, but I still want a good deal. Got a 10k knocked off one mount simply by telling someone, "If no one buys that, I will buy it from you direct so you don't have AH fees." So he got a little less than he was asking but didn't get dinged by the AH either, so winwin.

Are these recepies availible for goblin engeneers yet?
i suggest you just get it crafted,you can always find a guildie, who won't take the fee;) under my calculations it will cost you roughly 12k to do so;)

Yes, last patch they changed it.

for Goblins to make it the base mats to buy cost 10,000g ( + then 12 titansteel bars, 40 cobalt bolts, and 2 arctic fur)

for everyone else base mats cost 12,500g

since northrend is basically free of gatherers right now, there are titanium nodes littering the landscape. i highly suggest farming every last thing except the vendor mats (and if you feel lucky, maybe solo the first boss in ulduar to see if he skins for a chopper part for you) and finding an engineer friend to buy the vendor mats and make you one.

gold used to be a problem for me as well, until i stopped buying absolutely anything that is craftable. ANYTHING. get it crafted and refuse to pay retail markups!

I'm sitting pretty with about 10k now. Haven't gotten around to farming titanium and cobalt up just yet, but I just finished talking to a very good engineering buddy of mine and he said he'd be more than happy to make it for me. :) Apparently he owes me 1k somehow, so he's putting that towards the funds too. I'm not sure how I'm going to come across the arctic fur. I'm not a skinner anymore(on either of my toons) and I don't think there's any on the AH. I think there's a vendor who will trade it for...something...in Dalaran, I forget what exactly.

Due to some mixups I wound up 1k short, and then in another mixup(i.e. he bought the wrong thing instead of another piston, bless his heart) wound up 1.9k short. Setback after setback!

I'm giving him a Raptor Hatchling to cut 200g off of the price, and figured I'd sell hardened elementium bars to cover the rest - only I errored out and crashed.

Logged back in, crashed.

Okay, so we can't do this on Veeka - to my warrior, then! Log in on Mar with no issues, run to the g-bank, and...oh...forgot to allow Mar's rank to access the delicious third tab. HAAGHGJKFGNFD

And then I crash again.

Error #132 is a fickle bitch I've found, and she'll go away after an hour or so, but that's an hour I could be making money! And I can't! I want to cry. :(

Maybe your error #132 can meet up with my internet and chat over tea on their favorite methods to tick people off.
